You manage! KH went back to work the day after I got home from hospital and left me with 2-3 school runs, a double pram, a 2 year old and a prem baby... on more than a few occasions!!!

You do what you can and leave the rest.. but tbh I feel so much better just for not being pregnant anthing is possible!

My ex did the same (normal birth though) the night I got home, he worked till about 5am, my son screamed all night. As soon as ex got home, I handed him this screaming bundle, he sat down and immediately fell asleep, while son carried on screaming. Difference is this time, I won't see the other half for at least a week once he goes home, and if I'm unlucky it can be up to a month at a time. If I get another baby like last time...!

    How cruel....

This months Mothercare magazine talks about someone who did that :rotfl:

OH had man flu for less than 48 hours - passed it to me and this is the 11th day so I've said 'sod it' and am staying in bed. Doing anything makes me cough & then be sick so I'm not even going to try anymore!

Had our breastfeeding antenatal class last night - now I'm completely put off - twice as many disadvantages as advantages. How do you choose bottles & teats? Anyone using the cold water/Milton tablet method of sterilising? Looks easy, cheap & no more electriciry usage - gets good reviews on Mumsnet too :)

Fingers crossed then! :D I don't think I put him down for at least 6 months.

Though... he grew into a fairly placid well behaved lad, strange!

    Another delurk from <12 weeks!

Pigpen, I'm pretty sure you'll know the answer to this. WHere you live there used to be a baby shop just about opposite where Woolworths or boots was (can't remeber how far up the road it was!), is it still there? Not going to be buying anything yet but will be heading over that way once we do as there's mothercare, M&P and that pramland place (everytime I say/write that I hear the radio ad in my head!!). We have nothing here apart from a teeny Mothercare.

I can't stop eating! I ate my lunch sanwich at breakfast time so have had to scrounge some bread from one of the guys at work to have with my soup for lunch. I seem to go from full to starving in a split second and with starving comes sick/dizzy feelings! I don't care though, after our scare last week I'm happy with whatever this pregnancy throws at me as long as the little squirt is ok!!

The only disadvantage I found was not being able to leave the baby for more than a couple of hours.. but I never wanted to do that anyway.. My advice.. do it for a couple of days so the baby gets the benefits of the colostrum and make a decision once you have personal experience to base it on, especially if saving money is important to you.. taking someone elses word for it is not the same.. I thought I would hate bf and I loved it. The money on electricity used to sterilise a few bottles that are no longe sterile the second they are exposed to the air is nothing compared to the outlay on formula at about £12 a week.. they do use more than one tin/box a week for a while!

Men do not do night feeds.. they dont wake up.. or at least pretend they dont, noone ever takes the baby like they all promise they will.

Breastfeeding.. lop out boob.. feed sprog.. put it away. free, protects against lots of illnesses, no getting out of bed in the middle of the night, baby doesnt work itself to fever pitch screaming for a feed, no waste, storage is sorted, no washing or sterilising or outlay. You can go out and be out longer than anticipated without having to rush back because you have no more formula on you.
Bottlefeeding.. washing, sterilising, making up, storage, right temps, loads of waste, loads of money, got to get up in the middle of the night to warm milk, baby is left screaming while you do half of those things, more chance of colic/tummy bugs..

Cold water sterilising.. you have to change the fluid every 24 hours.. takes about 5 minutes.

Bottles/teats.. you go look at them and see which you like the look of best.. bear in mind ease of cleaning them.

I would advise anyone to give bf a go.. then make a decision.. it is easy enough to switch to formula but to relatate or get baby to latch on even after just a few days is very difficult!

Silvercross shop? It is still there.. as is Boots.. Woolies is long gone.. I think it is Ethel Austins now.. though I dont go into the town because I hate people!

There is Toys R Us across from Mothercare too (and Next and Boots) they have a good selection of pushchairs/cots etc in.
