Do you have to get the MatB1 from a midwife? I see my doctor in between hospital appointments. I don't have a midwife!

Well, my notes say its from a Midwife but i've found this from the DWP that says GP is fine too.

    http://www.dwp.gov.uk/docs/matb1-guidance.pdf

Just make sure you get it between 20 weeks (they wont do it before then), and 26weeks, which is the latest to give to employers in time. Your GP may be happy to issue you one without an appointment, and leave it at reception for you. Check with your surgery how they want to do it. All they do for it is fill in a name and NI number, and your EWC/EDD!

Blue and Winnie - thanks for your replies. I rang the labour ward earlier and spoke to a lovely midwife who talked me through their procedures for being induced, it's made me less fearful which is good. Am going to go for the sweep tomorrow so they can tell me how my lady bits are doing and speak to them from there. I did try doing pros and cons for induced or natural, totally confused myself lol.

Winne - thanks for the hernia heads up. I've never heard of anyone having one so wasn't sure what to expect. It doesn't hurt but is about 3 inches wide (it's flatish luckily so not like a tennis ball sticking out!)

Kira, glad your appt went well, hope you get good news on not starting your leave on a Sunday. :-)

Am quite jealous of all the pizza talk. I might instruct DH to get fish and chips on the way home. I have tried not to move or stand today to try and ease the pain in the hope it won't keep me awake tonight so don't want to make it bad by standing cooking and he's already 4 hours late from work so I doubt he'll want to either!

Going back to this mornings name conversations. OH wants to call a girl Daisy. I'm just not sure, but if it's not Daisy then it could be Baby for the first 5 years!!

  • Hi curlylucie :) welcome to the thread :)

I'm another who has had takeaway for tea :) a rare treat as our nearest one is 6 miles away... I had chips, curry and sausage and it was delicious :) sadly I was sick about 5 minutes after eating it but never mind!!!

Regarding maternity leave, I started mine on a Thursday and work never mentioned anything about it having to ne a Sunday.

    Take care everyone :) xxx

Hayley Daisy is lovely but just picture her as a 40 year old going for an executive job! Having said that, it's getting a popular name so she could be one of lots of Daisys! x

  • Just cross posted about 10 posts!
Kira - where I work used to have that as the maternity policy, but have changed it since the law changed. (I work for a county council so you would've expected them to get it right without being prompted!) They don't actually have alot of say in it because the government is in charge of your Stat Maternity Leave, and reimburses employers with the pay.
    Starting your Statutory Maternity Leave

You can start your Statutory Maternity Leave any time from 11 weeks before the beginning of the week when your baby's due.
If you are off work because of your pregnancy within four weeks of the expected birth date, your employer can make you start your Statutory Maternity Leave then.

  • Ah, everyone is talking about takeaways, you are making me hungry, lol. I had home made macaroni cheese, but think hubby is treating me to a takeaway at weekend, yum!

I know, I think they are the reasons I'm not keen, I like Charlotte and Caitlyn but he doesn't like either of them, and despite hours of looking at name books and websites we cannot come up with anything else! I like PP's idea of it being printed on their bum. Fingers crossed we have a boy!

Urgh stop talking about takeaways - I swear it's making the heartburn worse! *Off to the fridge I go for more milk!*

Now Charlotte I really like Hayley!

  • Phoebe and Polly are on our girls lists :)

I'm so horrific at decisions, and this one is massive. It's quite a responsibility picking a name isn't it?

    Phoebe is a fabulous name:D

P wasn't named for nearly a week and in the end I let OH choose her name as I was too indecisive. We had 2 girls names that we loved but when she was born we thought neither suited her so it was back to square one:eek: I love her name now though and can't imagine her being called anything else.

Congrats on all the recent births- all lovely names and I hope the mummies are all doing well x

I'm just popping in to let you know that Tesco are doing some fab baby bargains instore at the moment. There's a few threads on the grabbit board if anyone's interested but some of the things I managed to get were:

Fisher Price Precious Planet Musical Gym £16 (was £64.95:eek:)
Fisher Price Waterfall Soother £8 (was £34.95)
Fisher Price Precious Planet 2 in 1 Mobile £6.50 (was £24.95)
Lamaze The First Years Pyramid Gym £11 (was £44.95)
    Wilkinet 4 in 1 baby carrier £10 (was £42.95)

Peeps on the grabbit board have been getting baby monitors at 75% off and some stores have the widgey nursing pillows for £4.75 but unfortunately my local didn't stock this. Just a heads up that it may be worth a look in your local store if you still have any bits you need to buy.

*wanders off to persuade OH to order pizza for dinner now*
