I've done the same - we've saved up 5 times my net monthly salary to cover my ML but we'll still have to cut back on what we spend.
It's going to be tight, but fun!

Lirin it's worth working out the finances now. It's a gorgeous sunny morning here, so off to sunbath while DD is in school. I'm LOVING being off work!
How exciting Lozzy :j
Can I come and steal your garden? I hate living without one! Especially when it's sunny like this! The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -

Well done getting so much saved! My childcare costs stopped me from saving anything, but luckily they ended last week with school starting. A big motive for taking 12 months mat is avoiding the summer childcare cost. It would be a minimum of £1000 a month in summer, compared to £750 ish for the rest of the year  (on top of mortgages, etc. And that's with my mum helping 2 days a week. ) Sigh... Wish having kids wasn't so expensive.First Baby born January 2007

Alison- finances are as worked out as they can be I think.... I'd love it if there was more, but we will manage!
Gilly- Yes, I've been very surprised at people's generosity. I know what you mean though- people have offered to buy us particular bits, and while the nesting is starting to kick in and I'd love them here now, it's rude to ask! I've had so many people offer me bits from their children, or tell me they're making things as well- and I think the maternity jeans I have will shortly be listed on freecycle maybe as I don't wear them. Maternity clothing isn't exactly easy to find in NI.
I'm actually going to my mum's and sisters in Armagh, to collect pretty much everything I'll need for the baby in the first couple of weeks apparantly- my sisters have had both girls and boys, and I was bluntly told I wasn't allowed to buy anything until I see what they have.0 -
I've had a look for clothes, the big Peacocks at donegall place has maternity stuff now and it's not too expensive. I'm planning on buying some cheap tshirts from DP's and the likes, a few pairs of "good" maternity jeans and couple of pairs of leggings, and I'll cope with what I have. I have a lot of long tops/dresses which I'm determined I will squeeze into. OH's mum keeps going on about buying clothes, but I'm just not that interested.
The Mamas and Papas outlet in Banbridge had maternity jeans for £10. Loads of different styles too, but they had every size but my size!
I know I don't want to be rude, especially because of Christmas etc, but I don't want to be flapping about at the last minute worrying about not having things. It's really good you can get stuff from your sisters, you'l know it's been well looked after and where it's came fromThe frontier is never somewhere else. People are so generous, especially with your first baby. I couldn't believe the mountain of stuff I was given/loaned. Both families were great buying us the big things (prams, cot..) And the good thing about this being a second baby, is I've only had to buy nursing bras, some maternity clothes, and my washable nappies. I have been promised lots of boys clothes if it's a boy.
The only thing is, people are asking me now what I would like, or need, as a present. And I can honestly say, I have no idea. I don't think there is much we will need. Anyone got suggestions???
Gilly it sucks having no garden! I had to do without for 5 years in Belfast. Moved a year ago to Bangor to get my garden, and it's been great. You are welcome to come and visit!!!!First Baby born January 2007

I don't think anyone in a reasonably priced house in Belfast has a garden  Our lease is up in May and we are out of here, I've only been here for 3 months and I thought not having a garden wouldn't bother me, if only!
On the present thing, why not ask for gift vouchers, I don't think it sounds cheeky if you say "there is nothing we need or want at the moment, but we may need things in the future" that way when baby grows and you need bigger clothes or more equipment you can go get it.The frontier is never somewhere else. Morning all!
Ooo exciting stuff Lozzy!
I think Pigpen is due 4 or 5 days after me, I'm 34+3 today so she's around the 34 week mark. Woke up thinking about her in the middle of the night, I almost hope she has queue jumped - if only to ease the pain a bit! I know I'm praying for an early arrival!
Well I just trogged to my 34 week midwife appointment only to be told that she isn't in today and she was supposed to contact me. The surgery where I have my mw appointments isn't the one I'm registered at so they couldn't contact me because they have no details for me and the midwives office just didn't bother! I'm ABSOLUTELY livid  because I had to get my sister to rearrange her whole day so she could take me because I can't drive.
This baby can be born anytime he likes!0 -
How annoying Winnie!!!
i was ment to be at yet another consultants appointment on the 26th but i got a phone call with all the info they wanted to tell me with so was told i no longer had to go in BONUS!
Rock on to this morning and a lovely little brown envelope has came for me telling me i should not of missed that appointment and i must attend on the 2nd (tomorrow) what a pain in the bum! the only time i wanted to go up to the hospital was for the labour. fingers crossed it all happens today and tonight.
I was actually very surprised to see my postman at this time of day, and of course this very important appointment was sent 2nd class :rotfl: am a priority when it suits them.0
