EasyJet hand luggage AND hand bag?

This is from Easyjet's t & c's
In addition to the “Standard Hand Baggage” you may also carry:
(a) one of the following: An overcoat; an umbrella, or a shawl; and
(b) one standard size carrier bag of goods purchased from the departure airport.
Can I ask a dumb question....I've checked in online, don't have any hold luggage....so what do I do at the airport, do I still queue at the check in desk??? Forgive my stupidity, I'm going away on my own for Christmas and have never travelled alone before.
no, if you've checked in online you need to print off your boarding cards and take that with you to the airport. Then you take your hand luggage with you straight to the decurity area (ie you don't go anywhere near the check-in desks). From the security area you go to your departure gate.0 -
Can confirm that easyjet allow duty free purchases as well as one piece of hand luggage.
This was on a flight from Manchester to Sharm el Sheikh
They did stick to the one baggage per person rule, as my other half had to put her handbag into her small suitcase0 -
Just a note to say easyJet are definitely getting stricter about hand baggage. The reason is that (perhaps because of their high charges for checked baggage) more people are trying to manage with just hand baggage. Also, more people are checking-in online, so there's no opportunity for staff to look at your hand baggage at the check in desk.
On a recent flight from Inverness to Bristol EVERY person's hand baggage was checked to see if it fitted into the gauge. This was done at the gate just prior to boarding the plane. Your hand baggage had to fit EASILY into the gauge without forcing it. Lots of people failed and had to pay extra. This caused frustration, and also some genuine distress: for example to an elderly couple whose family had helped them with formalities at the check-in desk, and who were now alone at the departure gate and confused and anxious when asked to place their (small) bags into the gauge. Their bags were fine - as was mine - but they were left very flustered.
My only dispute with this is that easyJet made no attempt to look at my or other passengers' hand luggage at the check-in desk (they used to!), so that by the time passengers were at the gate and found that their hand baggage was too fat they had no chance to transfer any to their checked baggage. This did seem a little bit cynical and money-grabbing on easyJet's part, but in fainess they were following the rules which they do state clearly.
On my return flight from Bristol to Inverness today they ran out of space in the cabin because most people had avoided the checked baggage fees by bringing (large!) hand baggage cases instead. The chief steward said they might have to ask for volunteers to have hand baggage placed (free of charge) into the hold.
I think easyJet's decision to raise their fees for checked bags is coming back to haunt them!0
