What happens if you buy a handbag airside? :P
I guess the rules have changed since last year then, I'll have to make sure I take a very small bag and possibly buy a book airside rather than taking one with me!0 -

For a definitive answer look here (a carrier bag counts as a piece of hand luggage) (http://easyjet.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4049/session/L3RpbWUvMTMwODE1NDEyNS9zaWQvNkluNHFBd2s%3D for those who dont want to follow the link it states:
Each passenger can carry on the plane one piece of hand luggage (measuring a maximum 56 x 45 x 25cm).
That means…
…one laptop case, or
…one brief case, or
…one handbag/bumbag, or
…one rucksack, or
…one carrier bag
In short…one item only.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

Quoting from post 10 above "and you arrive at the boarding gate with too many items of hand baggage, there’s a charge of £40 per item if we need to book them into the hold at this stage." this implies that if you turn up at the gate with 2 pieces of hand luggage you will have to combine them into one of get fined.
Yes, it was at the boarding gate that I was asked to put my handbag into my hand luggage by Easyjet staff.0 -

I think you were just very lucky last year. Maybe the flight was not very full or something. I've been asked to combine handbag and hand luggage together for at least the last 3 or 4 years on Easyjet, which is not so nice when my hand luggage these days consists of a baby changing bag. I don't really understand though why people bring small suitcases into the cabin, especially if they have also stowed bigger ones. I try only to bring things on that I will need during the flight, then I have less to carry to the gate!
I think the only thing to do is to pack your handbag in your bigger cabin case, then after you have boarded but before you sit down, remove the handbag and stow the cabin case overhead. Which is daft but do-able.0 -
oh its so much easier just having hand luggage and no hold luggage Nicki - once your baby is grown up a bit you can go away as a family for up to a week with no extra baggage charges, no waiting at the baggage carousel, just trundle your little case off the plane with you and you're on your way. I don't take hold luggage at all if I can help it (and I usually can
) these days.

Because people travel for different reasons - EZY has by default become the carrier of choice for many businesses. There are times when I use it for a 2-3 week trip and 20kg in hold baggage just won't work so a bag in the cabin is needed as well0 -
What you can fit in a coat pocket or fishing type multi pocket waistcoat you can take onboard with your ONE piece of hand luggage.....simples.Political?....I dont do Political....well,not much!0

I bet Ryanair and Easyjet employees have a hearty laugh at discussions like these, when their cowed customers are nervously scrabbling to avoid their ridiculous and unfair extra charges. Have some backbone - don't fly with them!0

Over the past couple of years flying with EasyJet at the gate they have announced that the rule is one piece of hand luggage per person. I've always made sure that my handbag (with book etc) fits into cabin luggage so no problems. However, they've also followed this up with 'this doesn't apply to duty free' and therefore I've watched people boarding with one bag and a duty free yellow bag. I've also bought food airside and boarded with them in a separate bag and not been stopped. Maybe it depends upon the staff at the gate and the logo on the 'other bag' which it's a coffee shop bag or yellow duty free.0

I have this with a carrier bag with jumpers for cool UK and hats not needed for uk sun. The jobsworth at the desk said 1 bag only even when we pointed out it only contained clothes. So we put the hats on, tied on the jumpers, put carrier bags in pocket, passed through the gate, then took it all off again and put it back in the bags! Waste of time, delayed everyone for no reason.0
