EasyJet hand luggage AND hand bag?

From the Easy jet website (the bolding is theirs, not mine):You can take one piece of hand baggage into the cabin with you; maximum dimensions are 56 x 45 x 25cm. Hand bags, briefcases, laptops and laptop bags are all counted as one piece so if you have a hand bag and a laptop bag for example, you might want to consider putting one inside the other. And, even though it’s tempting, please don’t try to sneak two items past our gate crew: they’ll have to put one of them into the aircraft hold and charge you for it. It will delay yours and everyone else’s journey!
Given the above, I think it's unfair to refer to someone as a 'jobsworth' when he/she was only following company policy.I have this with a carrier bag with jumpers for cool UK and hats not needed for uk sun. The jobsworth at the desk said 1 bag only even when we pointed out it only contained clothes. So we put the hats on, tied on the jumpers, put carrier bags in pocket, passed through the gate, then took it all off again and put it back in the bags! Waste of time, delayed everyone for no reason.0 -
Last time I flew I put my handbag inside my small hand luggage suitcase then took it out again when I was on the plane. Thanks to everyone who posts comps, I love winning prizes big and small

My point that the carrier bags only contained jumpers and hats. I'd have no objections to the desk staff looking in the bags and indeed we showed him the contents. We couldn't go through until we put the jumpers and hats on. Then 5 yds on we put them all back the in carrier bags. It made no difference. We paid no excess. It just slowed down boarding of the plane.
Though my pride of place for stupidity (or rip-off) must go to USA flights. Luggage allowance is 23kgs/case with NO sharing, so have a 24 + 22 and you'll pay 1kg excess even though the plane is no heavier. At least Easyjet totals the case weights (AFAIK). As you might imagine the USA rules make for chaos at the check-in with people move items around to equalize the weight. It just makes for delays.0 -
Yes they do 'care' rules changed only relatively recently though for most carriers, prior to that the rule was often one bag plus handbag/laptop case. Most airlines do not count duty free as an extra bag although the 'money making' ones do. I sure easyjet is one of the ones that makes you fit duty free into your 1 hand bag.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0

No, you slowed down the boarding of the plane by having 2 bags instead of the one stipulated on the Easyjet website and making the person on the gate (not a 'jobsworth, just a guy doing the job he is paid to do) check in your second bag.0 -
How strict they are about the second hand bag varies from day to day. I assume that if the flight is full or the employee is under pressure to generate revenue they will be stricter.0

Recently flew to Palma and back with Ryanair. They didn't seem to take much notice at Stanstead but OMG at Palma the check in girls walked around with a 'right size cardboard box' and tried it on various people's bags who were then sent to the metal basket to try. There were a fair few people who had to pay the 40 Euro to put their bags in the hold.
Personally I think these people are stupid, the airlines give you plenty of warning: when booking and via emails about the baggage limit. So more fool you if you take no notice.0 -
This is from Easyjet's t & c's
In addition to the “Standard Hand Baggage” you may also carry:
(a) one of the following: An overcoat; an umbrella, or a shawl; and
(b) one standard size carrier bag of goods purchased from the departure airport.
Can I ask a dumb question....I've checked in online, don't have any hold luggage....so what do I do at the airport, do I still queue at the check in desk??? Forgive my stupidity, I'm going away on my own for Christmas and have never travelled alone before.0
