  • We are a funny lot aren't we?

You know in hindsight it would be better to just say that the stocking is from santa, as that alleviates a lot from the parents and the more costly presents.

Just one of them things that parenthood doesn't prepare you for (see earlier post of changing themes of santa!)

I think it was doing a 'shoebox' for the kids in Romania that wrecked my eldests head- although he took great pride in choosing items for it from the shop and appreciating that those children don't have anything- he couldn't fathom why FC wouldn't give them anything. I believe in being honest, but the fantansy of FC is too precious to give up! So that's why I had to come up with the notion that parents give santie the money.

Also someone told me that they wondered why their 11 and 12 yr old still believed in FC. They got to the bottom of it finally and the boys said they knew he didn't exist but feared getting less presents if they owned up to that thought!!!!

So beware, kids are cleverer than you give them credit for!!
  • When i was growing up all the presents under the tree were from Father Christmas. Dont remember any from my parents. Have followed the same tradition with my children. With all 3 being 1, 2 and 4 i dont have the worries of getting eactly what they want because they dont say they want anything. My 4 yr old has said he would like a power rangers tshirt and a present for his brother and sister. I hope he will be happy this year that father christmas will deliver and more as santas helpers have gone wild in the sales all year!
  • All the presents that we ( the parents) buy are from Father Christmas, and come in one big sack, wrapped up. We don't have to buy for children at Christmas as we spend enough on their birthdays! Other people's presents though, are under the tree and are always from the people themselves, Santa would never take the credit for them!

We only had stockings from Father Christmas (not Santa!) and the rest of the presents were from parents/relatives under the tree, and labelled as such so we could thankyou people appropriately. Our stockings were mainly full of everyday small things like toothbrush, face cream, socks, stationary, camera films, lip balm and the odd different more exciting things. All our main presents were from our parents and were under the tree. Stockings we unwrapped in bed with them in the morning, tree presents after breakfast.
It was pretty much the same for my husband when he was little, except he got more stuff/slightly more expensive items in his stocking, so probably less presents under the tree.

If we have kids we'll do the same for them. Nowadays we do stockings for each other (I mean Father Christmas brings us a stocking :)), and then bigger presents under the tree from each other as well.

I'm 36 now and when I was a kid, all the pressies were from Santa - never from mum and dad. I must confess to thinking it was a little unfair that I had to buy them a pressie and they never bought me one :)
With my son, I always did the main present from us and the rest from Santa - that way I got my thank yous too.
He's 12 now and this year is the first year he has admitted to not believing in Santa, he was also worried about not getting as many pressies if he owned up - apparently he's known for a few years!
  • I have been doing the never ending task of Christmas present wrapping and after a discussion with hubby, we decided that it would be best to give the majority of presents from us and siblings and as others have suggested just the stocking and small bits from Mr Clause. I would have been devestated to think that my mum and dad were not buying me a pressie.
    Loving the dtd thread. x

I asked this same question to my mum! We just had presents from Father Christmas which were left downstairs on the sofa. We were not allowed downstairs untill mum and dad were ready!

Now I have a family of my own (daughter 14 months) I am already thinking in advance of what im going to do with regards to this, My thoughts at the moment are that I will split the presents half and half from us and father christmas. This year she wont understand but im already getting prepared for when she does!

    Merry Christmas everybody :xmastree:
    Mum to 2 beautiful daughters born Oct 05 & Oct 08 :D
