Wheres my presents from Mummy&Daddy?

I was talking to my four year old niece and she said something that ive never thought of before.

She wanted to know why Santa buys her loads of presents and all her relatives buy her presents but she doesnt get anything off mummy and daddy?

My sister has bought her a present off mummy and daddy this year, but i can understand where she is coming from, i just thought it strange why ive never thought of it.

Has anyone else had kids think of this!

My presents were always addressed from my parents.

Santa only brought a stocking with a few small bits and pieces in it.

My children always get the main presents from us and the stocking and some small things from Santa, same as my parents did, DPs parents did the whole Santa thing last year and they asked where the presents were from them, so I doubt they will do it this year as they didn't know what to say.

  • I overheard a mum in Tesco the other day telling her son that she would buy the toy for him but that it had to be sent to Father Christmas so he could bring it back on Christmas Eve. I was like, what on earth???

But it seems that some children only get presents from Father Christmas, none from parents! I find this quite extraordinary, as we always got presents from our parents and only a small stocking filled with things like colouring books, paints, crayons (party bag type things), a few sweets and oranges.

I was gobsmacked when my MIL started doing the "from Santa" bit with me, so obviously my DH had different traditions to me.

We do things my way though - far better and my DH agrees as he always found it odd that he only ever got presents from Santa . . . my littlies love it, waking up to find the stacking hung the previous night has miraculously got presents in it (but then, I do the full works, we track Santa on Norad, wait until he gets to Eastern Europe, then it's off to bed before he reaches the UK, once the littles are in bed the tree and decorations go up, presents underneath, their faces on Christmas Day is a sight to behold, 'tis wonderful).

I can understand why parents do that, especially as there are children who think Santa can afford to buy EVERYTHING they wish for.

I have friends who are over 30 who still get presents from Santa, I don't think their Mum ever wants them to grow up!

I'm 27 and still get presents from Santa. :D However, I get NOTHING from my parents........ (I do realise that Santa is my parents  :rotfl:) In the "olden days" of believing, my main present came from Santa, along with a stocking of fruit and a book from my parents - was usually the Blue Peter annual.

Hmmmm, so in fact I've regressed........ argh!

We always mark some presents from us, the rest from Father Christmas. When I was growing up none of our presents were from our parents and I asked the same question. Strange how we all seem to have a different take on it.

My parents always said that they bought the presents and sent them to Father Christmas to wrap and bring back on Christmas Eve.
All my presents were from my parents. I would have seperate presents from mum and dad and then 1 big present from the both of them.

My kids get presents from me as well as from Santa that are usually to be found under the tree or in their stockings.

My sister is 27 and as she comes to me for Christmas I always do Santa presents for her too. Our parents died when she was 13 so she had to grow up pretty fast so I like her to be one of the kids at Christmas.

  • I think that's lovely, Jembie.

We give the kids some things from us, some from Father Christmas and try to stop them expecting too much by saying that he has a lot of children to take presents to, and it wouldn't be kind to ask for too many things.
Unfortunately, my 6 year old has a bit of a social conscience:this year and last year she has been worried about children in poorer countries and whether or not they get presents. We do the Charity shoebox each year and she read that 'the shoebox may be the only gift that the children get,' so she wanted to know why Santa favours children here and not in Africa.
    I find it a toughie.
