I have co-op house insurance and the BR was no obstacle - BUT - not to pay by instalments, I had to pay up front and Hastings are happy to insure my car as long as I pay up front. I didn't realise any BR's were able to get instalments for car or house insurance while undischarged.0

my insurance house and car is through Swinton as my broker I phoned them before sending off my BR forms (waiting on the acceptance) and they had no problem finding me new policies if I need them and checking my current policies will still be ok which they are. As Swinton are a broker they pay the companies up front and you pay them back over the year. they are not any more expensive them market place insurance and they said they have no problem with me becoming bankrupt and wished to keep my custom0

It was just over £300 so within the £500 limit for having to inform them of my status. I got home insurance from co op in February which went through fine for monthly payments, it was only £70 though.

I got a quote from More Than online for buildings and contents insurance. I was not asked about BR and it did not mention BR in the. eligibility criteria. Before I paid for the policy I thought I should ring to double check that being an undischarged BR was not a problem.
The woman at customer services said that if I rang up for a quote she would ask about BR and the policy would be declined. I told her it was not mentioned on line and she said not to worry about it and the policy 'should' be ok.
This isn't very clear, if BR is an issue for More Than, I would have. thought it would be part of the eligibility criteria. I don't feel very confident taking the policy online as I don't want to be left high and dry in the event I have to make a claim.0 -
Co-op, amongst others, are now doing 'credit checks' for applicants, new & old.....maybe Morethan are doing the same?
Perhaps BR isn't an issue regarding claims, but may be an issue with regards to credit checks?
In fact, although this year I paid for my motor insurance with Co-op as an annual payment, [because I could].....I would be interested to find out what would happen next year, if I requested to pay by monthly DD [to me, a better way, as it's extremely flexible from my viewpoint].....and when they refuse, demand to know why, 12 months previously, they were quite happy to accept monthly DD payment [and had been since before my BR!!!]....?????
Certainly [in Co-op's case] if I were refused I would demand an appeal, especially since they have already set a precedent [in my case] and they are not the only fish-in-the-sea?
I am beginning to think Co-op as a whole are becoming a bit of a bag o' worms.....rabbit-in-headlights syndrome? No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
Hi, just wondering if anyone knows when the Co-op insurance run the credit check, i.e. if I pay deposit and set up monthly payments, would it be after they process it or is it done automatically?
They are offering a price of less than half my current insurance.
Thanks in advance.ITV Winners Club Member (106)

When I took out home insurance in February, co op didn't run a credit check and I was able to pay the deposit on my card and set up a DD for the rest. I tried co op for my car insurance in April and they ran a credit check with experian, the result was I would have to pay the full premium upfront
Have co op let you enter your bank details? If they have you should be ok, just ring them after you have taken out the policy to make them aware of your BR (if you are BR of course!)

Thank you. Decided to take a chance on it, not like search will ruin credit file
I'm discharged
I bank with them so hopefully it'll go through ok. Let me enter details and pay deposit by card.
I guess worst that can happen is they decline it and refund me.ITV Winners Club Member (106)

I'm sure it will be fine if they have let you pay the deposit and set up the DD, mine went through and I am still undischarged! I'd ring them though to advise of the BR, they said it was fine to me but I asked them to make a note just in case!
