More Th>n doesn't ask questions about bankruptcy and have no problem covering bankrupts - but bizarrely they won't quote via price comparison sites because they say if they are in the minority of quotes this could put them at risk of fraud. How odd.

I don't know if you can entirely rely/trust comparison sites:

On Compare the market: ehome(Aviva), Sureterm direct, Endsleigh were quoted. (over 50 insurers turned me down as y to ever br)

on Gocompare: said "Cannot quote as previously declared bankrupt", on all the 3 above.

Some companies will quote but want up to £500 more!!!!

Gocompare seems to be the most obstinate comparator I have contacted, they don't seem to care, yet others like Confused.com have indicated a real desire for change. I am suspecting there are some big players monitoring the other thread on bankruptcy and lots of work is being done already behind the scenes. Thanks for the info about those three and the discrepancies.

I called my home insurers today to inform them of my BR (yesterday) and they removed our accidental damage cover and personal possessions away from the home. I got a quote from the Co-op which was not only cheaper and included accidental damage but also free home emergency cover. Have now cancelled with UIA, quite bizarre that they should react in that way seeing as they are linked with the union who supported and paid for our bankruptcy.

    Hello,

Just wanted to say that I have read through all the posts and the advise was very useful. I called Co-Op and they were fine about me being a discharged bankrupt - my search was even harder as I live in a thatched house but they even insure for that.
The quote was no different from quotes I'd had from specialist thatch insurers.
Still can't quite understand why being a discharged bankrupt would effect why my house would burn down, or burst pipes, burglary etc.....

Anyhow, Co-Op are the way forward - same with my bank account - accepted me for a basic bank account the week after I was made bankrupt. Plus the bonus that all their call centres are UK based.

Thanks for the help everyone. MSE is the best place for these type of questions.

That, plus they all talk like residents of Corrie...

but, well done for getting a good deal....and simply ditching the awkward insurers as not worth the hassle.
