Need Advice - RM 1st vs 2nd Class Recorded..

Options
Hi all, Just wondering how much I should charge for P&P for an item I am selling on ebay.
The total package weights 123g and I know RM first class recorded
is £2.73 vs RM 2nd class £2.49.

But should I charge for packaging cost inclusive.

Do you think this is reasonable charge?

1st class recorded £3
2nd class recorded £2.80

Thanks in advance.

I don't generally think that 20 odd pence is unreasonable for packaging but is seems some buyers do. I do object to paying for recorded post though.
Is there any reason why you're sending it recorded, as this rarely gets signed for & when it does, doesn't show online, so is really a waste of money.

I think that is more than reasonable.

Remember ebay state that you can charge for postage and packaging and a reasonable handling charge. However you are up against buyers that get miffed if they are charged 1p more than the cost of the stamp. So it's down to the definition of 'reasonable'....LOL

How much is the item worth, is it worth risking poor stars using recorded if the item is cheap?

Hi thanks for your reply. To answer your question, I thought sending
recorded post would at least give me a peace of mind that the item
is delivered and and signed for also gives the seller security against
lost. I.E some sort of compensation from RM.

I've sent out about 6 items and so far all been signed for and is
showing on RM website as delivered. To confirm that, buyers left
    feedback.

Few used computer hard drives and other electronic bits. Not worth
    more than £30 max.

You're covered for £46 just with your proof of postage, the same as you are with RD. By all accounts that's pretty rare to have all yours signed for & updated online.

I have sent a lot more than 6 items by royal mail recorded, and have never had any problems with recorded being signed for or tracked.

I have however, after taking advice from either these boards or the ebay forum, had items "not turn up" and had to refund, it only takes a couple of £30 odd items "not turning up" to realise recorded is the way to go!

That said, i dont charge for packaging, or taking items to the post office!

OP, Your postage sounds fine to me :)
Bear in mind, if an item does go missing, its your responsablity (sp) not the buyers, if they open a case against you , you are not protected by paypals sellers protection without the tracking number. It would be up to you to try and claim the loss from royal mail, not the buyer.

All that said, i have to agree that if the item is only worth a couple of pounds, say under a tenner, you might be better sending unrecorded and taking the risk.

I use recorded for everything, and mine are all signed for, displayed online, apart from an ocassional one, maybe 1 out of every 40 parcels per week. That's just my own experience though. Others generally report worse!

40 parcels a week is costing you £30.80 for recorded, are you really having that many problems with scammers to be able to afford that?

Forget the 2nd Class Recorded. I actively avoid buying from people who use 2nd Class post as the only postal method because I'm not prepared to wait another 2-3 days just so they can save 20p.
