Waiting for a proposal - how did you stay sane?!

You can still have a romantic proposal
Have a quiet wedding ceremony, and a big party.
You can always have a renewal of vows ceremony as the "big do" when you can afford it.

I know you're right HBS, but I get the feeling life may get in the way!
I should just be grateful to have found someone to spend my life with, anything else is a bonus!0 -
I feel like that too!

There is (sort of) - see this site--> http://www.iamstaggered.com/getting-engaged/ (and forums too....)
So I've been lurking since this thread started, but maybe it's time for me to finally add my story. I've been with my OH for nearly 11 years (it's our 11th anniversary on the 27th July)
Like most people on here, very keen to get married, but would like him to ask (tradition and all that). Not so bothered about a big wedding, it's that feeling of complete committment (hard to explain perhaps, but there it is). Already have mortgage and dogs, so this would seem like the next step
We talk a lot about it Quite open about what we both want, how we feel etc. Do wonder if part of it is expectations, from family, friends, even work colleagues. Last year, after 10th anniversary was awful - I don't know how many times I was asked, prodded about "so has he done it yet?".....worse for him I think.....
So, I guess a case of wait and see. There is quite a lot of stress going on (he is building our dream house (he's in property) alongside studying part time, and I have a pretty demanding job), but my worry is that's life surely?
If we wait for the "perfect time", what if that never happens? While I love him dearly and can't imagine not being with him, being his "girlfriend" after 11 years just seems so......trite. I want to be his wife, out there, loud and proud!
And no, I'm not proposing to him for anyone who cares to ask. You may think that's silly, but that's my choice, so there you go. Something special in having him do this one thing
Thank you if you made it this far :T

My OH used to say that life was too busy when I brought up getting engaged/ married- he would say that he was having a hard time at work and I was living far away and he just felt like he didn't have time. I explained to him that from my pov it wasn't like getting engaged would take up that much of his time and life was always going to be busy so there was no point in waiting til it wasn't- he agreed in the end that I had a point and a couple of weeks later he proposed- I think sometimes a seed needs to be planted in a man's mind about these things or they just don't think about them!
Good luck to all you waiting ladies hope it happens soon! I still remember feeling miserable and thinking it will never happen but it did and I can honestly say it has made us even stronger as a couple- the direction we are going in is confirmed and I feel much more secure which makes me more relaxed and means that I am probably better company so feels like we are happier nowdon't want to jinx it though lol we haven't started wedding planning yet after all! What I mean to say though is that I used to feel it was silly to want the proposal so much and I used to get annoyed with myself as a modern, forward thinking woman that I was waiting around for a man but I'm so glad I did in the end!
I know your pain waiting ladies but hopefully in the not too distant future you'll be looking back thinking it was worth it too

I only went and did it!!!
It was at all romantic, but I was never going to get down on 1 knee anyway!
I literally gave her the ring and said "Here's a present". It was the ring with a note saying "Lets get f*cking Married!" On it....she said yes, obviously!
She was very happy and didn't expect it at all
We have since bought a proper ring!
Hoping to get married on April 1st next year...maybe!0 -
