If you mean me my love....I did!! Funnily I was thinking about you last night and wondered how your plans were coming along! I am now resident of the April 2013 thread with a pic of my ring and everything

Hello newbie here  I have been reading back through this thread for a while now and only just decided to join and share my story
I have been with my boyfriend for almost 6 years now and I think I actually wanted to get married after about 2 years lol! However my boyfriend was always quite difficult to talk to about marriage/kids etc so I was always too scared to bring up the subject. He would talk about us being married one day in passing sometimes and I would get my hopes up but nothing ever happened. He sometimes made me feel like I was rushing things. We went away to Portugal last year for our 5 year anniversary and I was hoping...but nothing
So I decided this year to bite the bullet and ask when we would get engaged. I didn't need to have a definite date for our marriage or even any plans, I just wanted to know that it would be happening in the near future. Any way fast forward to now and we have mutually decided to ask eachother whilst we are in Rome on 1st Sep for our 6 year anniversaryWe decided to use my Nan's engagement ring and we are having it re-sized.
I just hope it happens in a romantic way-perhaps it is weird we are asking eachother? I don't know. I shall stop rambling now, just wanted to share my story. I really hope it works out as I have been waiting so many years for this! Cheryl X0 -
Cheryl thats so lovely im glad its all worked out for you. Its not weird at all, if it works go with it! happy wedding planning!!!0

Its not weird Cheryl, its lovely. What I would say is from the wisdom of this thread is, even if it feels unromantic, make sure you are on the same page before you go on holiday!
You can say it in a cheeky flirty way but make sure you do check with him what the plan is - he might have forgotten, or be expecting that you make the first move, and then the holiday slips by with you getting more and more wound up.0 -

I would second this, I got totally wound up when I expected my proposal, but after we chatted it turned out we had different ideas about how soon 'soon' was (I thought 2 days, he thought 2 weeks:rotfl:)
As it happens, I now know the date, but know it will be romantic, and I think with both of you asking it will be a lovely moment for you both.Saving for wedding 25 August 2013£1,090/£6,000Wedding Diet7lbs lost , 33lbs to go0 -
I always get my hopes up when I see this page on the first page!
Welcome Cheryl I really hope your stay here is a short one!
Spoke generically about weddings on the way home from work last night as a colleague of ours is getting married, as is a cousin of mine. He randomly pipes up 'I want us to both know and have met every single person at our wedding'. WHAT?! Mr I don't want to get married - wants to know everyone at OUR wedding...
I don't know if I am coming or going any more so not getting my hopes up! I will just take it with a pinch of salt - 2 year anniversary next Tuesday... wonder if he even remembers... xxxLife is too short not to love what you do.0 -
god never trust a man to remember an anniversary, one asks "what are we planning to do for our anniversary on Thursday"
Same as one does with birthdays. Give them plenty of notice and less issues of being let down.0 -
Oh there has been lots of 'what are we going to do for our anniversary', 'this time next week we will have been together for 2 years'... that sort of thing... we shall see... xxxLife is too short not to love what you do.0

My OH has always done things on memorable dates just so he can remember :rotfl:
He first asked me out on 12.12.07 then we got engaged on 05.05.11. I wonder what our wedding date will be, really wanted 12.12.12 but that ain't gonna happen.
Hang in there everyone! Your day will come :T0
