I am planning to propose to my GF in July for her bday

I proposed last weekend- had a plan and completely disregarded it lol
my fiancee (as she is now
) doesnt wear rings, so i didnt know her size, ordered a ring sizer free online, and it never arrived, we tried a downloadable one and it was shocking, so i said we should go somewhere and get her measured up.
all the jewellers we could find were selling rings for about £5k, we found a high street chain and thought we could actually look in there, the assistant was really helpful, we got the young lady measured up and had a look at rings, she fell in love with one that was just under £500 in the sale, i was willing to spend double that.
i was due to propose in 3 weeks on holiday in wales, with the ring ordered it was definitely no secret, but i was confused as to how i can do it, so i ended up proposing just after we ordered the ring and bought one from accessorise for her to wear while she waits for the real one to be delivered
my advice is if she loves you, nothing else will matter, ring size, how you do it etc
dont let the prices of some expensive places put you off though, there are very nice rings available for sensible moneyWho remembers when X Factor was just Roman suncream?0 -
You've looked in ONE shop-and one that has such poor business they need to stay open later than everyone else.
Go back with proper time to look around before you write these kind of shops off.CDaniels1987 wrote: »Ok so I have just got back from the Jewellery Quarter and I must say I am bitterly disappointed, to be fair only one shop was left open by time I got there, I went in and started talking to this lady told her what I was looking for and how much I wanted to spend, and the they had absolutely nothing under £1000! what I was looking for which is a 0.4-0.5 carat princess cut diamond on shoulders she quoted me a and showed me a ring which was £1899! I have found the exact same ring on http://www.serendipitydiamonds.co.uk for £734! everything was so expensive in there and she was not willing to haggle at all, I think if they are all like that I will be looking online!I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
Most shops at the quarter do close pretty early i'm afraid.
I agree with the poster above, you need to go earlier i'm afraid (or on a Saturday) and have a huge scout round. Don't forget the side streets and keep your eyes open, there are huge amounts of jewellers there, many of them are tiny independants.
We had our wedding and my engagement rings custom made at the quarter, they are bespoke and perfect for us. We did have a high budget but when you start asking they ask your budget (well most I went in did anyway) so tell them a bit under what you wish to spend (for haggling purposes) and go from there.
I have never come away from there disappointed, I will not buy jewellery these days from anywhere else as there is so much choice and for such good value.
Please try again op, you have a great budget and you will find the ring you want, you may even find one that you never thought you would pick but decide on something completely different to what you are looking for.
Good luck2 angels in heaven :A0 -
Oh dont get me wrong I am going to try there again, I am going there next Friday as I am off work and I am going to spend the whole day there!
We were in Bullring together today and as always she randomly stopped at some of the jewellery shops she pointed out a few that she liked but she was saying stuff like "I like that one but with a bigger diamond" and the diamond in those ones were like 0.33carat, which is not much smaller than my budget (im looking at a 0.4-0.5 carat) I am hoping she was only joking around!Disneyland Paris (Dream Castle) - January 2010

Many Thanks, well I am going to the jewellery quatre on friday as I have the day off, I might end up buying online tbh, I have found some really nice rings on diamondfactory.co.uk who are apprently based in Hatton Gardens, they have some really nice 0.4carat rings for around £618 (RRP £1200) which is really good (I think) but I will see whats on offer at Jewellery Quatre and to also get a good look at some 0.4carat rings to see if its nice enough for her.Disneyland Paris (Dream Castle) - January 2010

Ok well I have just got back from the Jewellery Quater and I found the ring and got it today!! ended up getting quite a good deal I think, its a Princess Cut, 0.35carat diamond, tiffany style setting, platinum, they had it marked at £1350.00 and I managed to get them to knock 40% off and got it for £810!! they valued it at £1500 which they have provided certification for and also GIA certified, so all in all I am quite happy!!
Just hope she likes it now!!!!

Hope all the rest of your plans go well & you have a great holiday.0 -
I don't know what princess cut or tiffany setting mean, but given how much time and care you've put into choosing it I'm sure she's going to love it. Let us know how it goes!0
