WOW! That sounds amazing. I would have LOVED that proposal. You are so on the right track with that. As for the ring, if you are definitely set on buying it in advance, then the jewellery quarter is a good plan. Have you got cash? If so, plan to haggle and you are looking at paying about about 2/3 to 3/4 of the marked price. So you can look up to £900 or £1000 or thereabouts. But be careful, some ladies have an exact idea of what ring they want - are you sure you know what you are doing? If you have doubts, pop in the Disney Store, buy a Mickey Mouse ring (literally), propose using that, and then go shopping when you return.
Hope it all goes well. It's soooooooooooooo romantic. I assume your honeymoon will be in Disneyworld ?0 -
Cor, i feel like an odd one out, but i'd rather a man buy me a good quality ring that i would wear for the rest of my life than some argos job! Its personal taste, not everyone on this forum has been in debt or has money issues. If you have the money and its not going to break you, then go for it. I don't think £700 is a lot for a ring, i would probably want a ring of better quality than be taken to disneyland for 5 days. A day trip to paris would suffice!
I hope she says yes!!0 -
If you can get to London, go to Hatton Garden. You will get an even better deal0

Buy a second hand ring, more for your money. I'd rather have an expensive ring, than a cheap ring and a holiday.0

Your proposal sounds lovely my engagement ring came from http://www.samarajames.com/ I think they are based in London Hatton Gardens.
I would be more bothered about the proposal than the actual ring.
Let us know how you get on

Wow. Wanna marry me instead? :rotfl:
Seriously, £700 is an absolute fortune to spend on a ring in my mind, so no doubt you'll get something great for that. It's not like you have to tell her exactly how much it cost and you know what style she likes, so you'll be fine! You've put so much thought into the proposal that the ring won't really matter anyway, I'd be willing to bet.0 -
It sounds like a lovely plan - I might have to direct my other half this way I got a hug in the kitchen as I was cooking pizza and chips after a night out and a would you marry me?:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: He was in the dog house for a while for that one!
As far as how much on the ring I think you pitched about right it's something to pass down the family (ive got my mums grans and great grans only girl in the family for 97 years!)and should be a bit special divide the cost over a life time not much per day!0 -
Thank you all for your responses! I have noticed a few of you have said the ring is more important, I understand what your saying that a ring is for a lifetime, but for me £700 in the jewellery Quater from what I have seen should get me something that worth about £1500 on the high street, I want the night/trip to be remembered as something special not just a "will you marry me" in the house kinda thing, I am going for the wow factor, she thinks that I have hardly any money and shes not expecting much for her bday so i'm hoping its a magical shock for her :-) and shows how much I care and love her!Disneyland Paris (Dream Castle) - January 2010
Fuertaventura (Corralejo, Oasis Dunas) - March 2010
Disneyland Paris (Dream Castle) - October 2010
Disneyland Paris (Kyriad) - July 20110 -
My engagement ring cost less than £50, my OH can't afford to save up that kind of money to spend on a ring and I wouldn't let him. But Do I care? No... I love him and I will marry him. I don't need a ring to tell me that.
You can get a decent ring for even half that money so have a look around.0 -
I haven't had a chance to read the replies, but if she is very specific on the type of thing she would like, I would suggest taking her shopping with her knowing the budget and letting her choose. That way you have a fun exciting shopping trip and she gets to choose what stays on her finger for the rest of her life.
Obviously to do this after the event, so in the meantime I would pop to argos get a cheap (very cheap) ring so you have something to give to her when she says yes. (just don't open the box and show her until she has said yes!)
