sounds really special! I bet she will love it.

My husband was having trouble finding me a ring so I suggested we go out together to look.(unromantic I guess for some) He was looking at all the expensive ones but I found one for £99 and its gorgeous with 9 diamonds instead of 1 huge thing.
I suspect she will be happy what ever ring you would buy for her, as others have said she is marrying you.

    Good luck

What about buying non-diamond? You can get a beautiful large stone surrounded by tiny diamonds for well below £700.

Edit: just noticed your post that she likes single diamonds :)

OP, do you know rhe size of her finger? Some of the rings with shoulders can be difficult to resize, and their sizes can vary from normal (mine does). Its horrible being given your ring and then having to let it go back. Been there!

If you don't, then please propose with a cheap ring with an IOU attached, iyswim.

By the way you sound lovely, hopes everything goes to plan for you both.
Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j

Yeah I know her ring size, brought her a Eternity Ring for xmas that was one size too big so had to order another one in, so her size is fine, however how much different do the rings with shoulders compare?

My husband gave me his grandmothers engagement ring. She had been happily married for 56 years when she died. He reckoned it was lucky for us. Its completely unique and that is what I love most about it.

If I give you my boyfriends email address do you think you could send him some tips? :rotfl:

Honestly, if someone put that much effort in then I agree, you could propose with a haribo ring for all I cared! Jewelley, especially engagement rings is a sensitive subject, I pointed out a cheap ring once to my OH but he told me it wasn't special enough . £700 is a lot to spend on a ring, I am not saying you shouldn't spend it but don't buy a ring purely because of it's price tag. I would really recommend looking at independant jewellers too, they often have very individual one-off pieces and they are normally open to haggling as well ;).

    Best of luck!

Very happily married on 10th April 2013 :D

I don't think that that £700 is too much for a ring your girlfriend will wear for the rest of her life. I was lucky that my mother gave me a family ring and I had the gold setting melted down and then had the diamond set into a lovely platinum ring. If only my husband's proposal had been as nice as yours sounds like it's going to be!

I believe this is a good website for diamond rings. You can play with the cut, carat, clarity and colour to see what you can get for your money.

My ring was £195 from Argos and I love it. I've seen similar rings at what I call proper jewellers (no offence Elizabeth Arden lol) and they're a lot more expensive. Everyone always admires my rings (I have an eternity ring now too - also a cheapy from Argos) and they look quite shocked when I tell them the truth.

Ultimately though as others have said it shouldn't all be about the ring.
