Honestly - £700 is a lot of money for a ring. I chose my own (OH had no idea what I wanted and I already had something in mind of what I wanted it to look like), and it cost £250. Although there was no big proposal, we just discussed marriage one night in one of those "plans for the future" discussions and agreed to get engaged lol. We did go out for a nice meal on the night we bought the ring to celebrate though.

How about something like this? http://www.hsamuel.co.uk/webstore/d/2080613/9ct+two+colour+gold+quarter+carat+diamond+ring/

When I got engaged my ring cost around £120, and I loved it and was proud to wear it. It's not a traditional engagement ring but was perfect for me. Unfortunately the engagement didn't last but ended on very good terms, and I got to keep my beautiful ring which I still wear happily (I did offer it back). It's definitely not the price that's important.

£700 sounds way to steep to me. You need to find a ring that looks like £700 but costs £150-£200.
This is MSE, I for one don't want to see you waste a lot on a trinket.
With all this Disney hoo-ha do you think she is mature enough yet ?

My engagement ring is amethyst and non-diamonds! My Oh took me on a suprise trip to Switzerland and on my birthday (mid August) as we left the hotel he went back for something he'd forgotten. He emerged with a massive rucksack I'd never seen before - he'd packed his case and I was banned from looking in it. We took 3 trains, eventually ending up on one that goes up through the Eiger to come out on the summit of the Jungfrau mountain. In the rucksack was all stuff he'd brought for the snow (it had been mid 30s when we left the hotel, now we were at 5 degrees) - he'd got new coat, hat, gloves, etc - all in shades of purple, my fave colour - and out on the snow plateau he popped the question with the purple amethyst ring. He sid after that as it was more of a dress ring we could get a proper one but no way would I change it after all that effort. Your gf is very lucky and with a proposal that you're planning she needs her head feeling if she'd complain!

My (now) husband got my ring for £700 from the jewellery quater :) Platinum with a 0.33 carat princess diamond and much bigger would be like a big HUGE rock. Lol.

I would reccomend Paul Green. The place itself is a bit scabby BUT his rings are beautiful and cheap! He told us he refuses to spend money on making the place look pretty when he can save the money and pass the discount onto the customer. Ours cost £700 but has since been valued at 2.5k :D

My engagement ring cost less than half that and I'm still married after almost 15 years. And as I'm such a good MSEer, my wedding ring (9ct gold) cost less than twenty quid!

It's not the size of the diamond that counts, it's the love that goes with it.

Hope she says yes and that you both have a lovely holiday and a long and happy life together! :T

bless you, sounds like you have it all planed out and it all sounds lovely, My husband proposed to me on our 1st anniversary of being together a year, and my engagement ring cost £180 not a lot but it still meant the world to me and I still think its lovely.
