Maybe a trip to see the lion king?

that's a great idea, if she is able to travel to London or the nearest place showing it.

What about the safari thing at Port Lympne http://www.aspinallfoundation.org/portlympne/safaris-and-experiences/view/60/livingstone-safari-lodge it's not quite Kenya but it sounds amazing, it's not far from Ashford , do you think she would be up to it?

You could become a blood donor (if you are not already) or put yourself on the bone marrow register. But of course that's a personal choice and just because I do both I would not preach to others about it so won't say anymore on the matter. x

She really is amazing isn't she? You could always pop a card or little letter in the post to her or her sister. If you go to www.postpals.co.uk and find Alice P (her pic is one of a few along the top at the moment). There you will see a c/o address. Anything small, just a few lines to put a smile on her face. Even just what you've done today. So long as you don't mention her illness. She wants upbeat stuff.

I'm too old to register as a bone marrow donor (I think you have to be under 50 ?), but I am a blood platelet donor. I've missed a couple of months this year so your thread has made me more determined to donate every month from now on.

This is a horrible question to ask, but I really want to make something for Alice but it will take a few weeks and I'm not sure if she would be well enough to enjoy it by then ?

I can't sleep tonight having read Alice's blog. I've been feeling sorry for myself all day because I've neglected my housework, garden etc for a while due to depression. So - compared to Alice and her lovely family I have absolutely nothing to be depressed about.

    Linda,

Sadly, it's only terrible things like this that make us stand back and look at our own lives. I used to be a bit of a stress head, get fed up with the kids mess etc. Then my 2 yr old cousin was diagnosed with leukemia and I'd think, why am I telling the kids off for something, that in the grand scale of things doesn't matter at all. It's if we are able to remember to be grateful for what we have that counts. I must admit, I try, but it's easy to forget sometimes.

I cannot comment on how Alice's health is right now, I do not know her personally. There are some people here that do though, but I'd say go for it! Both Alice and her sister Milly are in need of smiles.

The fact that you want to send something, and are touched by her story (who couldn't be?) shows you are a special person. x

I think the most important wish the Alice has is that everyone (who possibly can) registers for blood and bone marrow donation. I know its not as glamourous and exciting a arranging trips to kenya or contacting celebrities but this is the one that will make the biggest difference to the most people -so please veryone who has read the blog and felt moved to do something -make this the thing you do.

  • I would love to donate blood but sadly as I've received it, I can't donate. That feels pretty crazy to me because I owe it. I'm hoping they change the rules.

My heart goes out to Alice. So brave. I hope she gets to do everything and more

I emailed someone who posted on her blog yesterday. She mentioned that she would like to help Alice get to Kenya, but as I explained, Alice cannot travel that far now, but instead of Alice going to Kenya, why not bring Kenya to Alice?

If it is possible to get a hall for an evening and deck it out as a safari or a jungle, with pictures of Kenya, Safari, Masi, etc and maybe have some cine films showing being on safari, dancing with the masai, etc. Postcards from kenya?, etc, etc.

Just quick run of ideas, but I am sure with enough support, this could be made to happen for her?

I suggested the wildlife park and simlar ideas on the first page i think it would be a good idea...;)

As for Twitter Rosanne Cash and Mark Cavendish were both asking about it and tweeting...;)

same here, I used to donate, until I needed a blood transfusion when my son was born.

However, they did say, they are working on ways to allow in the future for people who have received blood transfusions to donate. So you never know, we may be able to donate one day in the future.

There used to be a mobile blood bank near my work, and my work encouraged everyone by allowing them time off work paid to go and give blood if they registered. Wish more companies would do this.
