Another oldie: Twin Peaks. My Dad introduced me to it and I love it. Get the gold edition so that you get the pilot episode.

Thanks again everyone. I am trying your suggestions out in order! We got hold of Alias from the first post and watched the pilot episode on Saturday and it was very entertaining! I'll get hold of the next couple of recommendations too this week if I can so we don't end up watching the same series back to back!

I too enjoyed The Good Wife and Gilmore Girls.
Other I've also watched recently include Army Wives, House, Boston Legal( bit repetitive in concept but funny at times!). Also like medical dramas including House, Grey Anatomy and Private Practice.

Also CSI - Vegas or New York in particular, Criminal Minds is excellent as is Lie to Me.
