also thumbs up for dexter and true blood if you can stand a bit of blood
30 rock is funny as well
if your wanting something that will last for ages then NCIS or any of the csi's0 -
I have bought some of the boxsets of the foreign dramas that BBC4 have been showing. I don't usually buy boxsets which shows how impressed I was by them. The Killing is sensational and I love the Swedish Wallander. I am currently working my way through Spiral thanks to my lovefilm subscription.
I would absolutely endorse the suggestion of The Killing and Spiral, they are superb. I can't comment on the Swedish Wallander as I haven't seen it, but my OH has and he loved it.0 -
Most of our current favourites have already been mentioned: True Blood, Sons of Anarchy, Justified, Deadwood, The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad. Old but absolutely brilliant: Northern Exposure. Also loved Buffy (and no, we're not teenagers - it really was a groundbreaking show).0

More votes for House, The Wire & Boardwalk Empire. I also love Treme - based in New Orleans after the floods - I think the 2nd series is just out in the States... Just started Game of Thrones - quite good although I'm not obsessional about it (as I was with the others)...but give it time!0

I saw someone mention CSI & NCIS .. if it helps the box sets are currently on offer at HMV, got mine at the beginning of the month

Nicki, try Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes, they are both absolutely brilliant! Phillip Glenister as Gene Hunt is outstanding in both of them. Do watch Life on Mars first though, as you may not get some of the references otherwise.
HTHGood enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j

This is an old one, but I have just bought Series 1 and II of '55 Degrees North' from Amazon. Amazing value, the whole thing cost just £6.49 delivered for nearly 800 hours running time. Link here:

I watched this when it was on TV in 2004 and thought it was great and a bit different then, and kept wishing that another series would be made. A lot of people seem to agree with me - see the reviews on Amazon.
Definitely worth less than £6.50 of my money!
BTW 'Mad Dogs' is now available on DVD, as I have just received it from Lovefilm.0 -
Another oldie but goodie is "State of Play" with John Simm, Neil Morrissey and Bill Nighy (and loads of others).
This is classy brit drama, and miles better than the US remake and film that was done of (pretty much) the same story. It is also now dirt cheap to buy, at just £3.99 from Amazon for all 6 hours.

I have just watched this again, and it is really brilliant stuff.

True blood is brilliant but quite adult. Walking dead is also excellent but gory.
My favourite series of all time is West wing which was the first you said you've seen already
Las Vegas is great and a little lighter as it gets a bit depressing watching heavy stuff all the time or shows like CSI which just really make you think you need life insurance lol.
The Unit is brilliant too, very well made and gripping."Life is what you make of it, whoever got anywhere without some passion and ambition?0 -
If you like courtroom stuff the first series of "Murder One" - excellent.0
