I agree; headless chickens. That's what Scottish Power were banking on in order to trap customers.

    I love headless chickens.

It means they can subsidise the increases that i would have paid had i not done the math and swapped.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

C_Mababejive, it's not 'math,' it's plain simple arithmetic. There's no algebra or geometry involved.

...just got an e mail from SP re increase in prices and offer of OES 14 (a capped offer) which has to be applied for before 1/9/2011....this indicates to me that something will happen at this date ie a price increase...I am on Online Energy Reward a fixed deal ending 31/7/2011.....I will wait till near the end of July and then choose a Fixed tariff ie you know the rates you will pay for a set period.....the capped deals could be subject to change (ie the standard direct debit rate increasing on which the OES 14 is based-2% below)...therefore to me the capped rates do not appear to be "capped" at all.....or am I missing something?......thanks Ed

OES14 is not a capped tariff; it is a variable tariff with the guarantee only that it will be at least 2% less than the standard monthly dd tariff.

Fixed tariffs - the prices do not change over the term

Capped tariffs - the prices will not go over the capped amount over the term, but may fall

with s/p on oe10 if i change to oe14 is there a coolin off period, can i say i dont want to go on that now

i used the gas and electric calculator which is nearly spot on.
spoke to a advisor at s/p and he gave me the quotes for oes14
for gas i asked how much was 35 movements of my 5 digit meter 392kwh,he said £12.35
and for electric 77 units was £8.72
both prices inc standing charge p/d and vat

now on the calculator it says for same quotes on oes10-
    gas-£16.10
    electric-£8.72 all inc vat

im paying at the mo,on oes10
for gas 10 movements on meter £3.56 over 3 days
    electric 30 units over 3 days £2.50
    so gas 35 movements on saver 10 now-£12.41 oes14-£12.35
    electric 77 units now on oes10- abt £6.40 oes14 £8.72

so my bill will raise by £2.26 over a week, which im quite happy with
  • I sent an email to SP asking them how I could use the online 'change my service' facility to change my tariff from OLES13 to OLES14, or to SP Direct 2012. I've just received an email from them containing: -

At present we are not offering Online Energy Saver 14 tariff to our existing customers.

Current we are offering few new tariffs as mentioned below:-

Our Capped Price product will guarantee no price increases until 31st May 2013, but should prices fall, you will receive this reduction.

Our Platinum product, providing standard boiler cover and fixed prices until 31st October 2013.

    Anyone else had this problem?

Now they really are taking the proverbial. They will lose a lot of customers if they take this approach. Many on this thread have signed up for either the oes 14 or the direct 12.

Or is it just another case of many hymn sheets floating around? They need to get their act together because it is becoming a joke.(and not a very funny one either)

I was going to fix but I've decided to do nothing for now. In on OS10 and like others say I'll be paying 30-40% more from 1 August. I'm going to see what increases come from other companies (hopefully by 1 August) as we are not on a level playing field at the moment. I might risk losing a slightly cheaper fixed rate (and that's all it is... slightly cheaper unless I go for a variable tariff) but to be honest I'm not prepared to lock in beyond 2012 anyway.

There might be a bit more competition soon and some cashback deals. IMHO, at the moment the other comapnies are happy just to hoover up as many Scottish Power customers as they can who are running around like headless chickens in a panic just like I was when I saw my increases!!!
I'm on the same tariff. I am not going to accept an increase of 36% elec & 56% gas.
Have tried various comparions based on my annual usage & EDF are apparently going to save me £221.
Have gone through Simplyswitch for £40 cashback, and will contact SP to let them know & hopefully will not be charged the £50
Have gone for EDF fixed tariff until Sept 2012.
I have 7 days cooling off, just in case something better comes along!

Just worked out the increases on my OS10 tariff

    Elec:
    First 225kWh 17.335going up to 23.725 37%
    Remaining 8.446going up to 11.266 33%

    Gas:
    First 670kWh 4.835 going up to 7.541 56%
    Remaining 2.630 going up to 3.457 31%

No way I'm accepting this but can't get through to SP on phone to sort out.

Does anyone know if OS10 tariff was a 12-month contract?

That's a very similar increase to the one SP are trying to hit me with. So much for 19%!

The e-mail I received said customers are free to switch without penalty but that SP must be notified within 15 days by the company to which you are switchng.

This is contentious because, of course, you have no control over the new company - and few of them seem to offer reliable service, so whether the notification will actually take place within 15 days is anyone's guess.

Personally, I'm going to give it a try by switching to a fixed deal with EDF. I shall notify SP personally and if they try to hit me with a charge am prepared to let it go to court as an 'unfair terms and conditions' issue.
