This is true. However, for joint accounts both account holders get free insuranse. And minimum pay-in is still the same £1000 for joint account.

    Sorry if anyone
It is unwise to pay too much but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, all you lose is a little money... that is all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot...it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better (John Ruskin - 19 ctry author, art critic & social reformer)

Sorry if anyone else has asked this question but we have joint a&l current account and have never paid above £750 (total) in a month. They send us our joint travel insurance scehdule every year and we are both listed as being covered. Am I missing something?

Is anyone interested in referring me for the A&L Refer a Friend scheme ?

PM me if you are prepared to split your bonus: I'd be happy with £20 for you and £30 for me.
  • Watch out for the clearing times of A&L accounts see the link.

Cheques take 5-6 days and transfers between A&L accounts take 2days!

Taking the wee rather I think.
  • My girlfriend is from Lithuania, but has been living in the UK since June and she needs a current account. No overdraft or cheque book required, just maestro/electron card and high st branches.

Does anybody have any suggestions of the best offer? We have already been rejeted by A&L, but that was probably our fault by understating her earnings and stability of employment....

Cashback would be great, but not essential.

    Many thanks in advance...

I have a A&L account active and all transfers have been instantaneous so I don't know where the 2 day thing has come from
  • Rejected by A&L? - I wouldn't get upset. The A&L account has a good headline rate, but their charges for going overdrawn are very punitive (50 pounds for 6 days overdrawn), their web site is down a lot making the account hard to manage, and their customer service is poor. Unless you are absolutely certain you will never go overdrawn under any circumstances, get a different account. I went for the A&L account after reading good reviews on this site, and have been very disappointed.

Only transfers between linked accounts are instantaneous. Transfers to other people with A&L accounts should take longer.

I am having trouble finding the best current account for my son aged 19. All the best accounts need you to be over 21. Has anyone found an account that pays good interest.
