But for all of these accounts you have to have a minimum pay in each month though, don't you?

Does anyone know of a good account whereby this is not the case?

  • dawny - I'm with First Direct, and I don't think there is a minimum per month amount

You can also get £25 out of Alliance and Leicester after you open a current account by agreeing to have a 'financal review' ie sitting down for an hour with one of their financial advisors, after the meeting they credit your account with the cash!

Needless to say: I am off down there on Monday to get my cash

(PS sorry if someone has already mentioned this and I missed it)
  • Gem,

Done that already - it's a good review, not too product'y and pretty productive for myself. The £25 is deposited into your "PlusSaver" linked account NOT the main Current Account and takes 60 days to appear.

You'll get another +£50 if you take out a product while you're there, too.

    adam.
  • i am a little dissapointed that this article doesnt cater for people under 21, but i have done a tiny bit of searching and i have found that alliance and leicster do a young worker current account http://www.alliance-leicester.co.uk/currentaccounts/index.asp?page=yw-curr-acc&cm_re=al2cahp-_-04-_-yworkbl&ct=curracchome04

if i open one of these accounts (both the current and savings ones, it seems i have to open a current and a savings account to get the 4.25% rate):

    1. is there any limits (i.e. after £2,500 the rate drops to 0.1%)

    2. how would i go about changing from my natwest account, would A&L transfer the money, or would i need to inform natwest of me leaving? (ive had the account about 4-5 years now. i had £375 in the account and i got £0.56 interest)

    3. can i use the refer a friend option to sign-up? could get myself £50 :D

I'm very disappointed - I applied for an A&L account online on 30/08, and now they've raised the rate (changed on 01/09 for online applications) and refuse to let me have the new rate.

I've not used the account yet, or even received any T&Cs in the post, and it seems a bit off they won't let me switch to the higher rate or just cancel the account and open a new one. There is a 14 day cancellation clause but apparently they won't let me have a new account if I use it.

Quidco are giving you £50 for opening an A&L current account
I opened an A&L account via the Quidco link on 30/3/06 and never received the £50, despite putting an earnings enquiry in to Quidco. They passed it over to A&L in June and I still haven't got the money. You might want to bear this in mind if you are opening an A&L account.
And the service I got in opening it was appalling, not to mention the multitude of letters and mailshots and five (I think) separate pin/account/online access codes they send you and you have to remember.
