As youve just found a trojan and removed it - has it effected youtube?
Id recommend using the adobe uninstall tool, rebooting and reinstalling it

Unfortunately uninstalling and reinstalling the flash again with the tool has not worked.

When I do reinstal though I cannot instal direct from adobe site, it always fails. I have to click the top bar to allow the download but then avast sandbox pops up and Whether I opt to go through sandbox or not (as I have tried both) the download always fails so I end up having to go through an alternative site, softpedia to reinstal
    Thanx

Funny you mention avast as its my next port of call
Id recommend uninstall Avast (just to try it) and see how it is then

Sadly it did not work, I even uninstalled the flash again after uninstalling avast and rebooting then I rebooted again in between reinstalling the flash again. It is a mystery why it wont work, the thumbnails have always shown up but vids will not play
    Thanx

    Lets look deeper

    Please run COMBOFIX
    http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
    Shut down your anti virus
Follow the simple instructions it gives
Post the COMPLETE log it creates here (Split into sections if need be) ~ if there are loads of 'SNAPSHOT' pages then leave them out

If it comes up with a RENAMING error then RIGHT click the exe file and RENAME and call it QWERTY (Making the complete file name 'QWERTY.exe') Or SAVE as 'QWERTY' on download
(If no log comes up or you lose it, COMBOFIX.TXT can be found in C drive)

  • Lady_K; can you post up a youtube link that doesn't play for you, please?

I'm just wondering if the URL is being corrupted somehow.
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas.

You tube videos had stopped working for me, on Firefox. I deleted Zonealarm, deleted and reinstalled Adobe, all to no avail. I cleared out Firefox history and Youtube is working again. Can`t explain it.

I have tried to run combofix and it has put a message saying

Its got as far as attempting to create new system restore point

this machine does not have the 'microsoft windows recovery console' installed. alternatively, an existing installation of the recovery console may be present but requires updating.

without it , combofix shall not attempt the fixing of some serious infections.

click 'yes' to have combofix download/instal it.

not sure what is best to do now, for now I've clicked no as I don't like having it open until I'm sure what to do, I will just have to re run it again.

Just wanted to add that after clicking 'no' to the above I lost internet connection. I was concerned as to what had happened with combofix so went to search files and folders for comboxfix. There came up the application for combofix but then there became a never ending list of combofix in c/. I got up to 100 and it just seemed to be going over and over searching the same files again. I did look in some of the folders and they all hold the same list

    floppy a
    local disc c
    dvd drive e
    dvd drive f
    shared documents
    personal documents

why are these folders repeating over and over? What would happen if I tried to delete combofix now?
