Videos in youtube will not play

A few years ago I stopped using ZA - thought I had deleted it. When I tried connecting to the internet I couldn't - ZA was stopping me "for my own protection" !!

I uninstalled zonealarm through ccleaner so I hope thats enough and I'm now using windows firewall just because its already on and quick for the moment, I may change to one of the others on that list but I do remember being really confused by comodo and if I don't understand how to use it I felt it may be even less secure for me. Why isnt windows firewall on that list?

The youtube is still not working and in fact it even seems a bit worse now for whatever reason, the download circle in the middle that was continually spinning now only spins for a second then stops.

Is it worth trying editing that host file thing I posted earlier or could that cause more problems?

Again - unless you require 'full control' (Which im sure you dont) then windows firewall will do just fine

If youve reset the hosts file as instructed, I cant see what editting it will achieve

Try using the zonealarm removal tool in case there are remnants.

Install and run ccleaner (untick the google toolbar during the install). Untick the "windows log files" box, under the system heading before cleaning. Also Tick the java cache tick box under CCleaner, applications, internet to wipe the java cache which sometimes hides infections. http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/slim

Install and run startuplite, accept suggested changes - http://www.malwarebytes.org/StartUpLite.exe

Reset IE to defaults under ie, tools, internet options, advanced
Disable ctfmon - control panel, regional and language options,languages, details, advanced, tick the Turn off advanced text services, ok

Click the java icon in control panel, advanced, misc - untick java quick starter, and untick place icon in task bar

Download and install cleanmem http://www.pcwintech.com/cleanmem (download direct download). In windows explorer, go to c:\windows\tasks, click on the clean system memory task, schedule, advanced, and change it from every 30 minutes to every 5 minutes, then ok, ok. Find c:\program files\cleanmem\mini_monitor, run it and right click the icon (near the clock) to set it to automatically run at startup, show percentage to keep an eye on your ram use. If your machine is still slow after doing everything listed, post your commit charge and installed physical ram details from task manager performance

In internet explorer, click on tools, internet options, advanced, disable script debugging to stop this running

Should I tick the hijack this items first before doing the rest as I still have it open from earlier or should I just close it and start with the ccleaner as you've put first then re run the hijack this again or would that log file be different?

There is a lot of stuff to change on there, I only use spybot for immunisation and don't use the tea time with it, would removing those from ie stop the immunisation from working or does that really matter?

I have fixed the ones in hijackthis and ran ccleaner the way advised and startuplite and got rid of a few of the other things but I'm still sorting through the other things, I can't find some of them.

I just ran malwarebytes and I can't believe that after having no infections since 2009 I have just aquired a trojan.p2pworm

I run malwarebytes regular and superantispyware so this worm has only just come on my pc. I'm a bit concerncerned as to why its happened, did it show up on the hijackthis scan?

Have installed and have running the cleanmem and changed the system mem task scedual to every 5 mins I don't understand the readings on this though but at the moment its showing a green box with =13 near the clock and commit total of 424.95 fluctuating slightly
