Keep the board but maybe change it to "Celebrate" with a main board for general bargins that are spotted which can be used as gifts (3fo2r2, clearance lines etc), then subboards for Christmas, Birthday, Easter, Valentines Day, Weddings, etc (can't think of other religious as I'm CofE and can't remember much of my RE lessons :o ).

Yes there would be more boards but then if you didn't want to know about Christmas stuff that had been spotted you could just not look at that board ;)

I've been planning for Christmas all year round for the past 5 years and it's made a huge difference PLUS this is the first year I've not put ANY gifts on the credit card :j I'm sure others feel the same way.

  • I've found this Christmas forum immensly helpful and have picked up some great ideas.

As it is entitled "Christmas and Winter Festivities" does that mean it will soon close? If so, would it be possible to have a similar topic, i.e. "Birthdays and Other Special Ocassions" so we can continue with the money saving ideas.

I really like this board, but I think to have a Christmas board still up in midsummer is rather odd and will devalue it. Things that become overly familiar lose their impact. It's a hard question to ask right now, as most of us Xmas lovers are still enjoying Xmas so it's a bit like asking if we should take the decorations down early. (The answer's always going to be NO!)

I don't think people should be posting bargains in the early part of the year (using them as Xmas pressies) in here, that's what the Grabbit board is for. I think when people talk about planning for next Christmas, they really generally mean 'buying presents in advance' so again, there's the Grabbit thread for that.

My vote is sadly that it should go. My heart says No, want more sweeties! (ie the board!) but my grown up mind says, all good things come to an end and Christmas will come again next year. A Seasonal Celebration board that changes with the seasons could stay. Or even a 'party planning' board. But the Christmas board should come down with the decorations, even if the users don't want it to. Someone has to have a sense of discipline lol :D
  • Keep the board if people are interested in it all year round and have it for all festivals.

I personally find it all as interesting as watching paint dry! I've never understood why all the hype about Christmas!

My 'deccies' (a string of flashing lights) went up on Christmas Eve and came down on Boxing Day.
