very cute toy.
random question alert, if you can't have a south facing back garden what direction would you have one? I'm thinking West so you get afternoon/evening sunshine but would i be right?0 -
I've got West-facing and it's lovely - my bedroom is at the front of the house so I get bathed in sunlight as I awake (well, it would be all romantic and lovely if I had cleaner windows, lol), and the garden (*cough* weeds) is bathed in sun afternoon and evening. Works well for me.0

Love the stripey fish Pippi, looks great! Now I understand about the non-charging, and understand completely...had sort of forgotten you had grown them at ex-work's premises. So lots of invaluable research done for free, and a good reputation established, sounds good to me! :j
Well, I psyched myself up to phone the lady about the knitted coat and skirt....and she was out!! So I will ring her tomorrow.
I had upped my price to £300 from £250, but then started totting up how much it is going to cost to buy the materials, I can get it down to about £150, but it could easily be twice that if she chooses different yarns.
DH had me looking for hand-knitted coats on the net...found this one...how can they charge so much? I know it's alpaca and wool, but I can could knit one in cashmere and merino mix for much less! Maybe I could find a lucrative job knitting for the vastly wealthy!! Somehow I don't think I would find it right to charge so much. Here is a piccie of the striped coat and skirt if you want to have a look.
Need to get to bed, soo tired tonight, funny, the more sleep I get the tired I feel!!!
I'll let you know how the phone call goes tomorrow.

Keiss <stern face> The amount you charge for your *time* is INDEPENDENT of the amount you charge for materials. That's just how much it costs, and if she wants to pay it, then that's her lookout. Don't push your time charge down because you think it'll be unreasonable when you add the materials on - unreasonable to you isn't necessarily unreasonable to someone wealthy who wants someone to handknit them an entire outfit!
That coat is ENORMOUS - how long is it going to take you?? An entire week, 7 hours a day? £250 is starting to look quite reasonable, and I bet it'll take you longer than that! Value yourself lady - say to yourself, 'this is how much it costs, she can choose to pay it if she wants to'. xxx0 -
Daffs, I'm loving that post you wrote half an hour ago! Keiss, listen to her!
LT - my house orientation is exactly the same as KK describes, and I love it - I have shaded areas too, which is important for me with my skin, and in the summer my bedroom has a chance to cool down a *little* bit before I sleep. Having spent 12 years with a south facing bedroom on top of a hill with no shade, I can't tell you how good that feels!2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Keiss, wot Cheery said is spot on, and KC's endorsement too. The time to make should definitely be separate to the material costs. Think of it this way, it gifts flexibility to the client to choose what materials she has the coat made out of - she's paying, she can treat herself or frugalise - her choice (unless the yarn she chooses is a s*d to knit!)
Also, she likes the pattern she has chosen - she would be getting that from you. If she went to another supplier, she'd have to accept their 'design' (like the one you found the link for) and pay the price they asked for.
Just a thought .......
Anyway - morning Pippi - soz for the hijack!! and morning to everyone else too.
