morning all. We've just bought DD Mr Men Learn to read and Learn to Write books for Christmas. We bought the same books for a friend's DD for her birthday and she loved them (both friend's DD and my DD) as they made learning fun so we picked up another set to put away for DD. I remember learning to read as a child. My sister and I went to welsh school so were obviously taught to read in welsh first. They didn't teach English til you were about 7yo so not to confuse the 2 languages. I remember my sister and I playing with a friend who was my sister's age (about 4-5 maybe?) and she read something out loud. I suddenly felt really stupid cos I couldn't read that and being older I felt I should be able to. I went crying to my mum that I was stupid who calmly explained that I could read just not as good in English yet. (the friend went to an english school) I'm afraid of DD experiencing something similar so we're encouraging both languages at home already for her.Goals for FebruaryDeclutter 2/50Money Made £0/£200Overpayments £0/£2000

Hey Starnac, didnt realise you were in South Wales (have no idea why!) I think it is a great idea to teach your DD from an early age. I am always in awe of my bilingual colleagues who can skip from one to the other.
Pippi......... repeat after me "I AM BRILLIANT"Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, I will try again tomorrow -- Mary Anne Radmacher0 -
morning all, how do you manage your PADs Pippi? I'm struggling with ours at the moment but anything extra (clicks, surveys etc) gets chucked at the debt but couldn't manage every day.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J0

yep here in the valleys MrsM.
I love listening to DD playing "school" with her dolls and teddies. She starts off in welsh and obviously doesn't have the vocab to carry on so she just carries on in gibberish. DH looks at her all proud and says to me "Her welsh is really coming on isn't it?" "Errrr no babe, that's gibberish" :rotfl:
Did you find your safe place Pippi??Goals for FebruaryDeclutter 2/50Money Made £0/£200Overpayments £0/£2000 -

MrsM i'm still the same, i could read for England but i cannot read aloud. I tend to speak the first part of one sentence and then the end of the next where i'm racing ahead of myself. i also read what i think it should say rather than what it does say.0

I do that. I do find it's easier to read to yourself than out loudGoals for FebruaryDeclutter 2/50Money Made £0/£200Overpayments £0/£2000 -
