Thanks for all the helpful comments guys, I really appreciate them. I'm calmer now, and I know we will get there, it's when she says she is trying but then isn't even looking at the words, is looking out of the window or even has her eyes closed...
She's surrounded by books, always has been, and we go to the library regularly and read to her several times a day and in between she listens to story tapes endlessly, I think it's just laziness more than anything, often she'll ask one of us to go and switch her story tape on even when she's in the same room as the tape player and we're busy doing something else in another room!
Anyway managed to get some work finished and harvest a bucket-ful of potatoes and onions, and the soup was nicer than I expected too, so a good end to the day really! Thanks all, hope you had a good day too, going to try and have an early night now!0 -
Lt you're not wrong :-) small thing make such a difference. I've not had a proper wage since last oct, sometimes I forget that too :-)
Troglodyte, hugs lady I'm sure you've tried everything. My ds is lazy on legs, he's discovered reading is lazy *productive time' who tells you off ever for reading? Once he sussed that, the rest is history!

Morning all. Hugs Trog re: reading, hope DD will crack it soon. Can't offer words of wisdom above what has already been said far more eloquently than me.
Woohoo, it's Monday and through my extremely dirty windows (must clean them one day...), I can see the sun shining and dew on the cars. Hope that means we're in for another nice day, I like nice autumnal sunny days.
Financially - the month seems to be speeding up for me and I'm possibly less skint than I feel, probably because I cancelled fixing the car's cosmetic problem. Either that, or being petrified of debt has stopped me frittering too much money away.
I had a bad day on Saturday, when OH wound me up first thing in the morning; he didn't mean to, he was trying to be caring and counselling but it came out wrong and I got offended and miserable.....so I spent the day in a grump, and took myself off to Te$co's to get some much needed fruit and veg...but bought up nearly the whole greengrocery section (better than chocolate I guess, saved that for yesterday when taking DD out for a picnic)
Thankfully, OH was his lovely calm self and didn't tell me to get a life, just kept up with the hugs and calmness, and disregarded my slightly over-critical way of behaving towards him most of the day, and by dinnertime, I was almost back in my own skin! He took us out for scrummy lunch in a restaurant, and DD took a gorgeous photo of us which I'm going to print out, our first coupley picture
Today is get off my backside and do the work I've been putting off day. I'm sure once I start tackling it sensibly, it won't be so bad......but I must keep of t'internet whilst in the office, it's too much of a distraction, so I'm checking my bank accounts now and must get our packed lunches made.
Have a fabulicious day everyone and hope the sun shines, either in the sky, or in your hearts0 -
That sounds pretty stressy, KK, hope today improves for you ...
Loving the stories of learning to read - between laziness, brain connections, safety issues, familiarity (Pippi, thats great with your DS) excellent. My business partner adopted a little boy of 5 years of age, a while back now, and read to him every night until he was 14 .... the (grownup) boy now says that its his dad who taught him to read, not the school.
I don't remember learning to read ... I *do* remember trying to learn to write, I couldn't do "S" one day, I was putting an extra wiggle on itand couldn't figure it out .... its a whole other game!
Hope the day goes well for all

Morning All. You are in fact doing brilliantly Pippi. Those PADs are amazing that you are making. I have been considering using a card to buy stuff and then make PADs so I am learning slowly from lots of places to find what suits.
I used to have extra lessons in school for reading. I read from as young as I can remember and I love books, always have so when I had extra lessons I was told it was because I was special. I took that to mean that I was so good at reading that the teacher wanted to hear me all the time. Imagine my shock horror when, at 21, it dawned on me that it was because I was rubbish at reading. I loved reading to myself, I would go off into my own little world (staring out of windows, closing my eyes to imagine the pictures in the words) but I was not very good at reading out loud. Apart from, perhaps, some laziness going on could your DD be like this maybe? Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, I will try again tomorrow -- Mary Anne Radmacher0 -
