One knock back this morning job wise. Have just transferred money to my friend's account so she can top up the discount shopping cards for me. They do make a difference and I got some money off vouchers (get £2 off when you spend £20) for Sainsbury's. I got 6 in total for 6 consecutive weeks but missed a week due to not shopping on the day I normally do. I think I'll be checking the vouchers board see if I can get any other vouchers. I am keeping an eye on prices and got veg, milk and bread from Aldi's yesterday, Packed lunch cans of juice from Home bargains for OH (who is still working for the moment, we've still to hear when he's finishing) and then my main shop from Sainsbury's. The only thing I wanted yesterday that I didn't get was Balsamic vinegar (Aldi's didn't have any), the cheapest in Sainsbury's is 99p and it was sold out (no wonder!). The next cheapest was £2.49 and there was no way I'm paying that much! Although they had an even more ridiculously priced one............ £11.99 !!!!!!
Who buys a 250ml bottle of balsamic vinegar at that price??? Come to think of it, has anyone else seen the Kingsmill pocket bread advert? They are halved pitta bread! I know they are designed for people who can't be bothered halving pitta bread and then using a knife of a spoon to open them up but really come on is it that difficult?CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. hi Uni
sorry not been around much of late, don't worry too much about our card you have higher priorities. Sorry to hear that OH is not being kept on, do you think it's cos he spends so much time winging?
glad SS has shown a bit of adultness (is that a word?) of late, long may it continue.0 -
The place where OH is working is paying off people, so they've tried to fit the permanent people in other departments. That means temp workers like OH need to go.
The only thing they can't tell us is when.

It's been a slow day, printed off my exam stuff but some of the diagrams from the PDF haven't printed properly so will have to print it again
Headed into town this morning to get folders, page markers etc for my course next week. Headed to Tiger, they seem to be popping up all over the place and their stuff is pretty reasonable and lovely! Its a cross between Muji, Ikea, Hobbycraft, a herb and spice shop and a sweet shop (caramel wafers....yum). Got all my supplies for next week and a roll of cellophane (80cm wide and 5m long) for £1, rock salt (500g) for £1. They sell allsorts.
Opened a new savings account as realised my current one was netting me 0.5%! New one is 3%. So at least that's sorted. Just waiting on my final payment.
Better get back to the books, hope everyone's ok.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. So very sorry to hear about OH not being kept on. I guess it couldn't have happened at a worse time. Have you signed on yet? And what about council tax benefit as well?
As both of your circumstances have changed, will you be wanting to write to your creditors asking to freeze interest and pay reduced payments? I am unsure whether you will be getting redundancy money, but would suggest that you will need it as a cushion rather than to pay off debts
chevI want a job that is less than an hour driving away from my house! Are you listening universe?

chev has some pretty good advice there. hope your course goes well. Never heard of Tiger but sounds like it's probably a good thing as i'd probably spend a small fortune in there.0

Not allowed to sign on, due to redundancy payments. No council tax benefit either, due to redundancy and the fact I'm self employed through the tarot even if it isn't regular income. I also checked to see if I would qualify to get £200 back for my course, nope as earned too much in the past year and of course redundancy . OH hasn't been told when he's to finish yet so we're taking each day as it comes. Put my CV in for a really interesting job yesterday, its only for a year but so far no news is good news (i.e. they've not said no!).
Just home, was volunteering this morning working in the shop. Had lovely lady in this morning and we were talking about knitting and how home knitted is so much nicer but it just wasn't cost effective. Said to her I could see it making a come back but she disagreed saying no one wears knits anymore, everyone wears fleece! I can see her point but clothes (new from shops) are getting so expensive the charity shop where I volunteer is seeing a drop in donations and the stuff people are handing in is extremely past its best. The shop where I work is lucky to get a lot of new stuff that hasn't sold in shops. I priced up 2 designer dresses (probably £100 each and were sold for £5 each) and men's black trousers. All 3 items sold within minutes of me putting it on the rails!CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. Quick update, I think I've done a tour of the country today! Took OH to get his hair cut (this was after appointment with nurse for me, new nurse and not a unsympathetic battle-axe like the last one. This one listened and gave me answers to questions I've been asking for years!). Felt awful after visit to clinic this morning, I know women's stuff is necessary but why do I feel like my insides have been in a blender after it!
Popped in to see my Mum today, got told off for spending £100 on a suit...... Mum I'm in my 30's (late 30s at that).... besides I wear suits to work and I am not going to an interview in a suit that's seen better days. I chose to work in an industry where your appearance is key. If I could have got a suit cheaper that fitted I would have.
Did a tour of 3 Mr T's (don't ask, customer service in the first store wasn't up to much and it was only thanks to a lady in the second store they found me one in the 3rd store!!!!) to get a fire pit for my Gran so she can burn garden waste. Ended up sat on her kitchen floor building it up for her. She's chuffed with it. Took the box it came in out to the recycle bin and put the box down to jump on it to flatten it. It didn't budge!!!! There's yours truly standing on an empty box...... then it gave way (cue me cartoon style split second later come crashing down), but only one side and grazed all my leg. Gran has given me some money towards the cost of my course. I'm not happy about it but she's told me not to argue. Does anyone else get why I feel guilty accepting money from my Gran? Both my Gran and my Papa when they were working saved very hard so that they didn't have a miserable retirement. Even still I still get a discounted shopping card for my Gran so she can get money off her shopping every week. And besides the fire pit I took her a small brooch (bought from the shop) and some lillies. But I'm still finding this hard, I don't want to sponge off her iyswim.
Finally made it home and curled up on sofa and did some studying. Getting there slowly but still very nervous.
How is everyone?CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J0 -
Morning All, tensions are rising in my household. SS full of the joys offers to pay for a takeaway tonight for us all. I say to him, why? He says he's got a payrise, turns out he's not got a payrise its his tax code has changed. Ask him if he's got his car insurance money together and he says no he's going to pay it from his tax rebate. We(OH and I) say what tax rebate? he says the face he was on emergency tax and his Dad phoned up and sorted it out. When we explain that OH only phoned his work not tax office he kicks off saying he can't afford his car insurance as he's paying SOOOO much out every month (clearing £1100, £120 in digs, £380 for car payment, £100 a month in petrol..... does that sound like skint to you? He has NO other outgoings). He's taking the mick again (only this time he's tidier!), he's not caring the fact I'm not working and his Dad is waiting to find out when he's finishing up.
He also tried to scam OH this morning (not pleased at all with that), he said to OH 'you owe me £25'. Now OH gives SS £15 a week for petrol to pick him up from work. Considering the situation we're in I think this is ridiculous as SS (see above) has very little outgoings. I caught the conversation and said to OH what was that about? He said SS said OH still owed him petrol money for last week. I said no you don't and the only reason I know that is you borrowed £10 from me to give SS until you went to the bank and you gave me it back. So OH said to SS, and sure enough he said 'oh yeah, I forgot that'.
He also doesn't believe that his insurance might go up from last year (he now drives a larger engine newer car compared to last year), apparently I'm wrong he's right. I'm not happy about him paying his insurance up as that wasn't the deal.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera.
