have been looking and have found a few sites with patterns for making your own. think these are a really good idea - have been looking into reusable nappies recently and this seems a natural progression. the patterns are at:

im on nights with nothing better to do, and stumbled across this thread. i am stunned, nay horrified that i have actually read it. yuk.Mortgage £242500 on completion
FD CC 11/2014 £5900 (£3900 after BT)
FD loan Approx £5700
Deeply depressing total - £2541000 -
have just bought some from Weenotions and they are really well made and very quick delivery. top layer made of a lycra type material and they sell the PUL waterproof backing by the half metre to make your own.0

I am reading some of the reactions with a mixture of hilarity and mild shock, why are some of us so disgusted and scared of our womanly blood? In ancient times it was regarded as a time of creativity and celebration of our womanhood.
I can understand some unease in some women (esp. very young ones and non-mothers) but HORROR? EUGGGHHH? Why? Our periods are telling us that our bodies are healthy and womanly, we should honour that time, not reject it.
Ah, well, each to their own.... I have used reusables forever (or so it seems, now that I am ever so near the menopause) with occasional escapades to Tampax for swimming sessions when 'on'. Can't really see what all the euggghhhh and fuss is, really!
CaterinaFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
about to become a mother for the first time and the transition from reusable nappies to reusable sanitary pads feels like quite a natural one! now I've got used to the idea of dealing with baby poo and stuff every day for a couple of years, I've suddenly become a lot less squeamish...0

Fab thread, really inspired by the positive experiences. Currently b/feeding but will try something like this eventually. I'm using washable nappies with my 2nd baby and they are great compared with disposables. I feel quite ill at the thought of all the disposables I used with my 1st. I feel that marketing from big companies has brainwashed us into thinking disposable sanpro is the only option - I must admit I never thought about it until recently.0

Well mine arrived a couple of weeks ago and have all been used. They are fantastic! I ordered 4 panty liners and 4 regular pads to start with. Soaked in (ex-nappy) bucket in cold water and then thrown in the next wash. Panty liners used at start/end and then on the day I use tampons. The pads were used at night and the other day.0

Thought I'd let you all know that thanks to this thread I invested in my first set of washable sanitary lady things! They're hanging up to dry after being washed now and I have to say I'm ridiculously impressed!
I found the more absorbant than any disposable towel on the market (and I think I've tried almost all of them!)
Comfier than all the disposable ones I've tried!
They were a bit fiddly to popper onto my knickers but I figure I'll get used to that!
Um, *delicate mode* there was no odour at all, I was astonished! While I'm in delicate mode I'd like to share with you that fact that my overly sensitive lady bits really liked the softness, I'll leave it at that, sorry for the TMI!
No leakage, but I did intentionally buy ones with a PUL backing for that reason!
Becuase they're so absorbant it wasn't gross at all, you need a bit of a strong stomach when you rinse them but it really there was no more, um, contact than you would normally have with dispoables!
They washed beautifully, a tiny bit of staining so I might put them on a longer wash (instead of the 30 minute quick wash) next time but nothing that the sun won't bleach out. I tested them with a towel and a couple of hankies and nothing that went in with them came out any worse for wear for it!
All in all I'm very chuffed with them, it was so much easier than I was expecting! Oh, and for everyone's information I'm no one's mum so I haven't really done any nappies or anything, so I haven't been de-sensitised to yuck!Comping, freebieing and trying to pay the mortgage off early!0 -

Where did you buy yours from Fritha?
I wouldn't go back to disposables now if you paid me.
Glad you've had such a positive experience with them....it is not of more importance than daily life, which I have an enduring wish to make as useful and beautiful as possible.

Um, I got from here http://cumfybumfy.co.uk/cumfyshop/index.php/cPath/92 they are the Mamas Pads but the normal ones rather than the nighttime ones, They're actually a different colour to the ones on there and have a Happy Heiny's label on them. They were £11.50 for three, so I might try to Weenotions ones to swell my collection becuse they look very similar and have very good reviews on here! (Although after looking at the weenotions shop they appear to be closed!)
I'm honestly surprised how much I really liked them and how there really wasn't anything gross about them and I thought I'd share!Comping, freebieing and trying to pay the mortgage off early!0
