Reusables also have liners if you want that and trust me they are even more absorbant. Sure it might take you a couple of days to get used to it but you wont switch back when you do. The savings for the environment and your pocket make them a great product and all the health benefits added I just love them. I've never stained underwear using these products and my flow has became much, much slighter since switching.

Can't remember where I got mine from but it was as a site recommened on the mooncup thread on the families board eons ago. I love my washable ST's (as much as you can love such a thing!). Since I gave birth 18 months ago I seem to have become very intolerant to disposable tampons & ST's, they all irritate me, but no such problems with my washable ST's. I just chuck them in the nappy bucket with the dirty nappies & wipes & wash them all together. Neighbours might think I have some funny things on the washing line though.....:o

Never had a single problem with leaks even though mine don't have any kind of waterproof lining but popper around the crotch of my knickers, much more reliabe than disposabels in my experience. Mine are "stuffable", in that they have 2 inner washable pads according to how heavy your flow is, I've never needed more than 1 at a time & on light days I just wear the towel with no inner pad. Must admit I don't know that I could use them if I was at work as I don't think they would be too pratical.

Prehaps not the sexiest of garments but my hubby doesn't mind (he calls them flatworms?) and I have never seen the need to have funky patterend ones!

And to the poster who thought the idea was "yuck", I'm guessing you've never given birth then?!:D:p:rotfl::eek::D
Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p

In England we have Mothering Sunday & Father Christmas, Mothers day & Santa Clause are American merchandising tricks:mad: Demonstrate pride in your heirtage by getting it right please people!

You might have to use the drop down menu on the left and click on menstrual pads.

It does make me laugh that people are so offended by this. It's as if humanity never ever managed without companies telling us what we 'need' and selling us items they call 'disposable' but what they mean is you have to throw them away after use.

Yeah, I don't actually put them straight in the washing machine heavily soiled! I keep a bucket (like a nappy bucket) by the loo at home, filled with cold water and a few drops of tea tree oil (changed daily) and just add them to that. Then put them through the washing machine whenever I next wash the bath towels.

I had no idea how much marketing hype there is attached to the disposable sanpro products, until I started using the washable sort and realised what a load of cobblers the adverts are!

Why dont all women get the 'implant' then you wouldnt need to buy anything!

    I second that !!

I am now on my third implant and life is so rosy !, no PMT, no cramps, no nothing :)

However, I am still interested in this thread as my 11 Daughter is just starting her periods, the PMT has been here now for about 5 months, just waiting the the next bit to happen. we are stocked up with towels and panti liners as I had no idea there were re-useable ones available. My DD has already commented on the uncomfortable feel of the bought ones and "was I sure they would be ok", from the conversations on here, I will look at some of the websites suggested and will buy some and see how it goes.

As I said earlier not all women stop bleeding on the implant and for some its much worse plus some women dont like the idea of anything like hormones etc in their body so they'd not use it.

I really cant recommend reusables enough. They're so comfortable, cost efficient good for the environment and there are numerous health benefits attached.
  • Ewwww! is this thread for real? Am I the only one who nearly lost my dinner after reading this?

A thousand apologies if I sound ignorant but I would struggle with the idea of using reusable menses sanitaries let alone throw them in with my other wash.

    Ughhhh!

This whole thread is just so wrong, I'm all for going green and saving money, but c'mon, this is just giving me the complete boak, I'd rather camp out sitting on the lavvy for a few days every month before going down this route, there's just some things in life you have to fork out money for and disposable sanitary products is definitely one of them

For me, it's not about saving money (although that is a side effect), it's about environemntal issues. I think the title of the thread was clear, why bother reading the thread if it makes you feel ill?

Exactly. I guess babies napies give you the boke too. Maybe time to grow up slightly?
  • I've been using mine for a couple of years now and love them. They are so much more comfy.
