  • I paid £3.85 for one Peeweez pad and the postage was free from their website. They are well made with different patterend flannel and a waterproof backing. My friend has beeen using them for ages and says they last for ages too! Well impressed you made yours yourself.

I do have to say they are gorgeous but mine were about 25/30p each....that's how cheap they are potentially. Okay they're not fully waterproof and they're a hassle to wash but far comfier than disposables and I've just worked out I'm due on when I'm away soon and I'm going to have to use disposables and DREADING it.....LOL

That's after about a year of using my homemade ST's......at the time I invented them I had no working sewing machine etc and had just started the frugal living challenge on here so had to think of something...a quick google and I find out they're best washed out in cold (has to be cold) water and shampoo a few times then bunged in at a white wash.....the cold water is murder for my hands but hey ho.

They also need a air tight box between sink and washing machine. I was lucky to find a nappy bucket in the charity shop later in the year. But at first I think I used a tupperware cake box...

Anyhow.......if you have an email (to the above) I can maybe pm you the e-book I wrote just so you can try the homemade version and see what you prefer?

PS. I know this is digressing a little but recently found out I'm allergic to shop deodorant (any variety - have tried them all) so now using a talc like solution of bicarb and cornflour. Also fixes any hormonal pits..(GP was thrilled when I told her that...apparently she'd had lots of folk with hormonal pits in the other week)...E

  • I'd be well interested in the e-book you wrote, but I don't know what or how you mean I should get it. Bit of a novice on computers. If you can give me some instructions though i'm sure I can follow them. Also what are hormonal pits?

I have it in PDF (adobe acrobat) on my pc which I can just email you for you to download.....Otherwise it's for sale on Amazon under Kindle store (you need the Kindle for your PC program free from amazon to get it on your pc)

Can't tell you the title cos I think the mods will have me for it.... but you should be able to find it (just type something appropriate in the search box in amazon)...can't remember the price of it and the 2nd one (the one that maybe easier to find) I think is cheaper than the first but like won't be online till late Monday after amazon have done all they need to (first they have to approve which takes 24hrs then they have to publish)

I have to say I really admire you ladies for using washable sanitary protection. Def not for me I have to say! I live in 2011 not 1911 and as such will take full advantage of that particular modern comfort.

I started with a few Minki ones, they were fantastic but ended up making more of my own (I am no seamstress I promise you but they were really easy to make). Also, just wanted to add that when I changed to washable ones I suffered much less often with bad cramps. I have never tried the mooncup although I am tempted to give it a go.

  • Hi
This may seem a bit odd - but I hate to throw anything away and these might be of use to someone, especially if you are thinking of making some washable sanitary towels, I have approx 16 absorbent inserts from various brands of washable towels that are washed but unused. I use a femmecup so only have washables as back up and never needed any extra absorbancy. If anyone would like them let me know. They are mostly from Popolini and are mostly quite slim so would fit in most brands or DIY pads, made from unbleached towelling.

Never posted before...hope I did it right!
