I've been toying with the idea of washable pads for a while now. Having read through this thread (from the very beginning!), I've just ordered some from weenotions.

I havent been happy with disposables for some time now - discomfort and environmental issues being the main points. Plus I am trying to streamline my spending habits and get out of debt - I figure this one off payment is going to save me some money in the long run.

I think I'll also have a look around and see about making my own too.

Thanks for everyones thoughts and comments - very helpful.

i've read quite a bit of this thread....it's very interesting....

i changed to wemoon washable pads about six months ago and don't regret it.....not only are they environmentally sound but it saves me money on the disposables...

    i get them from here:

    http://www.plushpants.co.uk/

the ones i use are non bleached organic cotton....

    it makes a huge difference!!

there are no chemicals to irriate my skin.....they are comfortable to wear and easy to maintain....i soak them for a day in cold water and rinse them through before adding to my usual wash.....

in regards to the post about getting an "implant"....not all women want these types of hormones to control what is basically a natural cycle.....in fact, after giving up the pill about 10 years ago, i am more in-tune to my natural cycle and wouldn't change it for anything....

in regards to the women who are disgusted by their cycles, i can't comprehend it.....i do think it's about media and such who makes us think there is something wrong with us during our monthly cycles.....i embrace my cycle.....it's what makes me a woman!

for those wanting to read more about embracing what makes us women, plus information on alternative menstrual products, read here:

i've gleaned so much great information from this site! :)

I use a mixture of washable pads and the mooncup most of my period but use disposables when on holiday or out a lot due to very heavy bleeding.

I have to empty the mooncup every couple of hours the first few days but find that I get less cramps than with disposables.

What are the mooncups like? Lots of info on what the washable ST's are like, but not the mooncups. I'm quite interested.

LadyPink - have you considered a smallish swing top bin as a place to soak? you can 'fling' em in the swing bin and no one else will see them! :D
  • I'm about to go back to my washable pads because I've just had a coil fitted and although the mooncup site says you can use this with the coil my last coil came out! Anyone else with a coil find this?
I'm not taking the chance again which is a shame in a way as I love my Mooncup and it makes my periods so much shorter.
I built up quite a collection of pads but unless you make your own, it can be quite expensive to have enough to see you through a period (if yours are anything like mine!)
I love using them though, and the one of the plusses is you always have them in, you don't need to worry about buying them in for that 'special time!' :rotfl:
Will have to get some really heavy duty ones though as the coil makes my periods very heavy!
Can anyone reccommend any heavy-duty ones please?

    TMI Alert :)

I have some of the pads in the above link - they are designed for overnight / post partum and are really absorbant. They are longer than the other pads I own and I find them brilliant for my first couple of days of my period, when I tend to have a very heavy loss that my other washables cannot cope so well with.
  • Thanks for that OldMacdonald. Do these stay in place if you are wearing them during the day or are they too bulky for day use? With my Mooncup I would have one real day of can't-leave-the-house heaviness. From what I remember of the last time I had the coil there were several days of that!¬
Much as we would all like to just stay housebound on those days its just not possible is it, so I would need these to stay in place and not be too bulky IYKWIM. They look great by the way.
