Good post wuckfit and I would have thought that by now, due to its popularity and volume of members, M.L. should consider appropriate monitoring and employ moderators for this forum.
I am a member of another two forums - one which is related to my profession and is moderated (over zealously IMO) and the other does allow posts 'near the bone' but is monitored well.
Getting the balance right can be difficult as the first forum I mentioned is spoilt by over moderation whereas the other has the perfect balance - but also comes down hard on inappropriate posts/posters.
This forum is now massive and I believe it is now time that persistent offenders have their knuckles rapped or be banned.
The OP has obtained some invaluable advice on this forum from SarEl - and we need many more like her. It is a sad indictment of this forum where such a valuable source of expertice feels the need to leave because of silly comments. This professional advice would cost a fortune from a High Street solicitor - she is providing it for free.
Removal or banning of persistent offensive posters is the way forward to encourage people to continue to offer and seek advice and M.L. should consider it.0 -
Hi Booie, was it the disciplinary yesterday? How did it go?0

I don't know if the OP still monitors this board since we have migrated elsewhere - but I am still monitoring for now. No, the "brought forward" extra, maybe a hearing, did not happen. They appear to be still finding their solicitors. The OP is sending a steaming letter - and if they haven't really got a solicitor (which I suspect they haven't) they will probably need one after they get it. Make that definitely. Booie is off practicising on ET1's. And her son is coping well under the circumstances. He's more gutsy than some people on these boards - he's able to say what is what to people's faces, and he did really well in the disciplinary. I am quietly confident that as soon as the employer actually gets a solicitor, whilst there may be a bit of bravado, he will get a settlement. They really do not want to take their evidence into a tribunal. And to be fair, I wouldn't want them to. It is sometimes hard enough for the judges not to laugh.... So in solidarity with tribunal judges everywhere - we wouldn't want to put them through this employers "case".0

Thanks for the update, wishing him well. Your opinion which I've highlighted in bold is discourteous and uncalled for..................

and forgiveable

Some people on these boards do hide behind the anonymity of tinternet. But I am not referring to anyone in particular.Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -

No it isn't. he was called a liar by some people on these boards - without any evidence or cause, and something which you "board running smoothly people but not moderators" have completely ignored. It is therefore a fact - he has the guts to face his accusers and some people here hide behind their anonymity to slander and offend. It's a fact. When this site wakes up to that fact it might once again be worth something.
But thank you for pointing out to me just how selective memories are on this site. Please believe me when I say that when I wish to be discourteous, you will not need to consider it. As one of the previous posters has said - there appears to be a view amongst some posters here that lots of posts means lots of sense. Clearly, that isn't the case. Do not presume to tell me how to behave with regard to factual information which is evidenced in your own boards - instead I suggest that you "not moderators" do something about the wholesale ignorance and prejudice which regularly offends, and borderrs on, if not crosses over into, unlawful discriminatory remarks. You never once intervene to prevent attacks on women who are pregnamt or on maternity leave despite wholly inflammatory comments made by posters here; you have never once intervened to point out that public sector workers have a right to be heard without being accused of being lazy or weak willed. How dare you comment on my moral stance - before looking to your own?
And no doubt this post will disappear - you seem to moderate at your own whim.0 -
As it's unclear whether you're using 'you' singular or 'you' plural, I'll leave you to get on with it..................

No, that is not the case at all. That is the party line that is trotted out but it is not what happens.
This place has become monstrous - and I wonder if Martin Lewis knows or even cares. As it's unclear whether you're using 'you' singular or 'you' plural, I'll leave you to get on with it.
Oh please! I really hope you read that back and cringe. It is the adult version of 'whatever!'0 -

Like it or not - the reality is that there are cliques and indeed individuals who frequent these boards who are allowed to post whatever they like.
Certainly when I have been attacked for stating something that somebody does not like, I respond in a similar manner.
Whether that is right or wrong is open to debate and many will suggest I should not rise to inflammatory comments - however, by not doing so, those perpetrators (the majority of who are just plain bullies and I suspect have 'issues' in their own lives) smell blood.
Bullies don't like people fighting back.
Certainly I am no shrinking violet and if I do step over the mark - then ban me by all means - however, in the name of fairness, effective monitoring needs to be consistent and that being the case, I suspect many posters would be banned on a regular basis.
My opinion for what it is worth is that this forum (which is now massive) has been allowed to be 'unmoderated' for so long now and is dependent on members or "board running smoothly people but not moderators" (great quote) reporting unsuitable posts as opposed to effective nominated monitors moderating the boards that it has developed 'undesirable trends'.
Clearly this form of monitoring is ineffective.
One member of another forum I am a member of (as described earlier) actually mentioned this board when he posted on it for the first time.
His description of MSE was that it was 'full of nasty people - many of who are unhelpful and are just bullies'. I have attempted to search for this post but I was unable to locate it.
As jobbingmusician quite correctly states, 'some people on these boards do hide behind the anonymity of tinternet' but let's not detract from the fact that despite its flaws, this forum provides invaluable information to posters who may or may not be in a position to fight their own battles - this very thread is testament to that. This place has become monstrous - and I wonder if Martin Lewis knows or even cares.
My sentiments exactly!0
