My friend has a Road Angel which he tells me would normally beep and warn him if a radar device were pointed at the car.
Tell your friend that Road Angel is not a radar detector. It uses the same technology as TomTom and POIs. I.E. somebody has to log the location of speed traps.

The only advantage that Road Angel has over something like TomTom is that it has automatic updates via mobile phone technology as you are driving (newer TomToms might have this but I haven't looked)

I think they are bang on, I do drive at 90ish at times. I also drive at 30 in 30 zones.

On a long drive I can sit and eat, chat to the Mrs, look at the CD player, change the radio, plug in the MP3 player and choose an album, drink a coffee, in the old days light a cigarette.

All whilst, indicating that I'll be changing lanes, checking my blind spot, acknowledging considerate drivers, etc.

It amazes me, that other drivers can't drive from their home to the local Tesco without cutting up someone on the roundabout because they've not looked at the signs.

I have been driving since 1987 & in that time have only got 3 points,(thanks to some pr1ck in a Merc tearing up behind me so I had to accelerate to overtake the cars to my left in order to pull in so Merc wouldn't go into the back of me)

I have had two accidents, one where a dog ran across a duel carraigeway & the car in front of the car in front braked for said dog,I swerved to avoid the car in front of me but my transit van clipped his nearside rear bumper & wing.

The other was caused by a woman who decided to move off onto a roundabout, then stopped before going onto the roundabout to change a CD.As she was moving off onto the roundabout & the road to the right was clear,I started to move forward to the junction when I saw her move, only to go into the back of her car.She was picking the CD's up from the drivers footwell when I went to see if she was OK.
Minor damage to her bumper which she agreed to repair herself as she admitted to being the one at fault in changing the CD.

Both of those accident's I've been in were caused by other people, the dog owner who allowed her dog to run free & the woman who decided to change her CD while going onto a roundabout.Do I share some of the blame for it,obviously yes.But I was driving & not changing a CD,drinking a coffee, rolling a fag ect. With the amount of eejits on the road today,it's better to be safe than sorry. We all pop a sweety into our gobs while driving, talk to the family but to drive well over the speed limit & do those things is paramount to suicide.
And I had a blowout on the M5 once in my works Transit, scared the bejazus clean out of me!

If you can do all that & still think you're a safe driver, then you deserve to be the next Stig!
No one is a 100% safe driver, not even the experts.

nope never. If i had to i would find a safe place to pull over and do one of the above.

As for getting a grip, i think it's you that should.

So next time your drinking your frapomapochoco coffee, and driving with one hand... think of who would be blamed if an accident occured..

But you're missing the whole point of my post(s)! Too busy galloping along on your high horse perhaps?

Out of 3 pages & 50 odd posts only 2 posters (bargepole & HO87) have actually answered the guys question! I'm sure they have their own views on whether it's acceptable to drive @ 90 whilst drinking but they weren't asked for their moral judgement so they didn't post it!

At the end of the day this is (or should be) an advice forum yet it's constantly turned into a flaming war full of irrelevent sanctimonious twaddle!

By behaving like you do you're damaging the forums & it's no surprise that all newbie posters have a special request added by MSE asking for people to be nice... anyone thinking of posting for the 1st time will most definatly have second thoughts after reading this thread!

The OP has had plenty of advice from the forum though...most of it is to tell his "friend" to stop driving like a moron.

This I grant you is not "money saving" advice which is the forum stated remit but there again, being pedantic, neither is telling the OP that 90mph on a mototway is £60 + 3 points ...that's just a fact it won't save him any money !

Also this is a PARKING forum not a general motoring offence forum ..so on that basis the OP should ask his question elsewhere ..

The money saving bit comes in to it................Drive safely and it keeps insurance premiums down. :)
Here to learn and pass on my experiences.

To clear up a few issues:

The OP has certainly taken on board that the behaviour reported was stupid and it most definitely won't be repeated.

The OP is very sorry to hear of death caused by stupid driving behaviour.

The OP is still unclear as to the potential consequences of the 2(combined) offences described.

    With thanks.

Dangers aside. I think if it was a police car, I do not think the one handed driving would of been "noticed" as they would of been recording speed.Hopefully the driver (whether a friend or you) will have learnt a lesson, both on the possible results and the fact not to rely on the Road Angel.

From the description the device appears to have been this: http://www.teletrafficuk.com/pdf/manual-ranger.pdf and judging by the information and example pictures in the document it would both record the driver's face and speed....

If they were looking through the viewfinder, then they may not have noticed the OP drinking coffee. However they may still get a fine for speeding. Although I have no personal experience of this, so I can't say for sure.

The OP probably needs to re visit when his friend has received the NIP or Summons...whilst speeding can be dealt with by way of a fixed penalty I'm not sure that any other offence relating to the coffee can be..

Only a legally qualified person with experience of traffic matters could give the correct advice ..is 90 on a motorway with coffee likely to be :-

    Driving without due care etc
Driving whilst not in proper control
    Careless driving ?
    Reckless driving ?
    Dangerous driving ?
