So you've never changed a CD, retuned the radio, looked at the mrs while having a conversation whilst driving? Maybe turned round to give the kids a telling off? Really?
Because those things are directly comparable with speeding at 90mph while drinking a hot up of coffee aren't they?

    Grow up.

As for wife or kids I do not have any as I lost my wife in a car accident before we had the chance to have any.
    Speechless.

F*cking drives home the point of not doing silly sh*t while driving doesn't it. Puts it in perspective.

I'm so sorry for your loss. :(

    Seems a little harsh?

You wouldn't think it was harsh if he had killed one of your children whilst speeding, and not being in full control of his vehicle would you?

I've been a passenger with him many times, he is a courteous and experienced driver. Driving along the motorway at 90 is of course over the speed limit....but I personally don't have an issue with that speed according to traffic and conditions. I also don't think sipping coffee from a cup is at all dangerous in the way that speaking on a mobile or reading from a map is.....

Just because he is experienced and couteous doesn't make him a good driver. In fact from what you have described he is a dangerous driver. If he was involved in an accident then they would throw the book at him, and rightly so. Too many people think they are good drivers, when they aren't.

    Outpost,

Thank you however it was some years ago now and have more or less got over it, but did not find new love I guess you get drawn in and that happens.

Motorways are very dangerous roads more so than A OR B roads and the traffic on them gets heavier and heavier by the days and weeks but drivers still think they can do the same and not adjust to that fact.

Road building and improvements is not keeping at pace with the amount of vehicles using them and unfortunately we will always have a fraction of drivers that show no consideration for other road users and that scares the hell out of me.

Difficult to say anything more on the dangers of driving without due care an attention after that isn't it? :(

Get a grip people, it's easy to post sanctimonious crap on the internet as if you're the perfect driver.... take a good look at what you ALL do, day in day out!

And if you do any of the above, then you are not in full cotrol of your vehicle. Most of the time people get away with it, but it only takes once to kill someone (even your children that you were telling off).

Which is safer, drinking a cup of coffee or lighting a cigarette? I remember my smoking days, flying along the motorway trying to light a cig.

Technically you wouldn't be in full control of your vehicle when doing either. And if you cause an accident whilst doing either, then you could be prosecuted.

A bit like asking if it's safer to jump in a cage with a lion or a tiger surely? Both could kill you just as easily as the other.

    Hi,

So, about an hour ago a friend of mine was driving westbound between Junction 17 and 18 of the M4. He was doing about 90 mph. He was also sipping a coffee held in his right hand.

As he passed the layby he noticed a grey unmarked car parked perpendicular to the road with the driver aiming what appeared to be a camera from the open driver's window.

My friend has a Road Angel which he tells me would normally beep and warn him if a radar device were pointed at the car.

What do you think the policeman was up to? Is it likely he was using a camera equipped to detect speed? Or do you think he was looking to record someone going way fast and then give chase having already collected his evidence?

In other words, if my friend wasn't chased down, do you think he is ok....or can he expect a fine in the post?

If the latter, what do you think the combination of speed and one hand off the wheel might result in?

Any ideas would be gratefully received!

    Thanks,
    Andy

It doesn't sound like a Police car would point a device outside a window and not pull [STRIKE]you[/STRIKE] your friend over. However, if it was the Police then you will be sent through a NIP first, then they'll decide what to do with [STRIKE]you[/STRIKE] your friend.

Anyway, there are innocent motorists that get caught out by speed cameras and human error on the Police's part, and these drivers are fully entitled to advice and support from MSE and Pepipoo users...But [STRIKE]you sir, [/STRIKE] sorry, your friend has admitted to driving at 90 MPH with a coffee in [STRIKE]your[/STRIKE] , I mean, your friends car... I think [STRIKE]you[/STRIKE] should, sorry, again, your FRIEND should surrender [STRIKE]your [/STRIKE] their license and have [STRIKE]your[/STRIKE] their car impounded and never allowed to drive anywhere, in any country!

90 MPH?...Drinking a cup of coffee... If you had said 80 or so on a clear stretch of motorway, I'd possibly slightly understand...But , 90...

[STRIKE]You[/STRIKE] your friend deserves all that's coming, or at least what I hope that is coming.

Edit: 80, both hands on steering wheel, full concentration, no coffee*
