Actually, you appear to be mistaken, sir.

Now That's What I Call Music 4, 8 & 9 appear also to have been issued as single CD compilations, perhaps with not the full collection of tracks that the tape & LP had.

This seems to be confirmed by two sources EDIT that n00bs like me are not permitted to link to.

I only discovered this thread because I happened by a CD copy on eBay and was stunned by the price. But I can't believe people would bid that high if a CD of this title had never actually been pressed. Perhaps you'll be interested yourself?

I'm not yet allowed to post links, but check out eBay item 350469426581.

Time for some dedicated perusal of car-boot and estate sales, methinks.

Thanks for that, you are absolutely correct. I failed to mention the single CD releases. I have them in my collection but I don't wholly accept them as part of the full double album series.
The reason they only issued them as single discs was down to manufacturing costs and selling price of Cd's at the time, the maximum running times of 74 mins (as compared to 80 mins now) and they didn't think the format was that in demand in it's infancy.
Mind you if you had bought a few extra copies of each when they were released you would have made a few bob over the years. They have been selling well in excess of £50 for the last 20 years or so.:)

    And they do sell!
(Not many made mind. One minimal production run only)

I still have the original Electro album set on vinyl, I was gob-smacked at how much 1 & 2 were worth online. I should sell my albums on and make a few quid, but I just cannot part with them, even though I have no turntable to play them on anymore.

I am the same, very nostalgic and can't bear to part with my cherished vinyl, pre-recorded Dcc's/Minidiscs and rare cassettes, no matter what they are worth.
I notice Vinyl is on a resurge at the moment, the amount of new releases and back catalogue is unbelieveable. It is expensive but it is high quality 180 gram material. They have even started issuing the new Now releases on vinyl!
Your collection is probably like mine, all protected and cared for.
Still it's always there for a rainy day when if you desperately need to raise some dosh:)

I do understand your position. It would be nice to have the complete double albums. Are the CD releases missing much? I would guess they may contain less than half of the full Now cassette release.

I had a copy of Now 4 on tape when it was originally released, but I guess I was about 11 at the time, and shortly afterwards that kind of pop was no longer "cool".

Have you seen the price of that current eBay listing, though? It was at £250 when I posted this morning, now £315 with 3 hours to go and several independent bidders. So it might well go to £500.

Whilst I would love some of these old Nows on CD, I can't bring myself to feel they're that "valuable" or "collectable". I mean, obviously there are those with money who disagree with me, but I can't treasure them that way myself. They are a great way to own legitimate digital copies of these one-hit-wonder tracks, songs which are evocative of a short period, songs which everyone enjoys and remembers, the singers so quickly forgotten, but still there's something missing for me - I wouldn't be able to bring myself to pay even £10 a copy, myself.

The single discs are about half of the original double album. They are not worth the money they are attracting in auctions, I bought my now 4 in a mark down sale about a year after it was released for £6.99!
I never really play it as it's not the complete album and some of the best tracks (for me) have been left off. Wouldn't sell it though as it's still a small part of the overall NOW history.
I think EMI would make a decent return if they put NOW 2 to 9 and the Summer Album ( the only ones not released on double CD) in a complete box set and time the release for the Xmas market. If they don't want to release them why don't they licence it to a specialist label, there would be no shortage of takers.
Somebody mentioned further back in the thread that sales of the Now 1 re-issue were weak. I think that was probably true but they made a big mistake by not TV advertising it, after all that is a big part of the success of the NOW albums:)

10,000 CDs in your collection and you remember that!?
You must be very fond of these compilations!

Or perhaps, like me, you like to leave the price stickers on your CDs for just such future reference?

Yes I cheated as well. I always used to put the shop stickers on the jewel tray under the disc. All still there. Some rare stickers I have though...Our Price, Woolworths Blitz price, Tower Records, Andy's Records...... lol:)
