An old diesel Scenic is a big boat of a thing though, so surely it's not going to be fantastically economical either? (given it's not only heavy but has an old engine in it, not a new fangled ubereconomical OMG diesel people are going nuts for now)

Biggest problem with the Scenic is the price - I only plan on keeping the car for 2 months and I'd be leaving myself open to more financial risk by sinking £1250 into it - I seriously doubt I'd be able to recover that even if it does last that long without dying in a French electrical storm.

Buy the Mondeo then.... but you're buying the wrong car....

Are there really that many people looking for high mile diesel French people carriers that I'd be able to sell it privately quickly with 10 months MOT for close to £1250?

(just found out it's automatic too - didn't notice that the first time.....)

Just my opinion, but if I was looking for a shed to sell on in a couple of months for under a grand, I wouldnt even consider a dealer. Take you chances at an auction/free paper/ebay. That way your not paying over the odds for the car (dealer has to make a living somewhere). Think you will find it hard to turn a profit on a dealer bought car (IMO) .

Oh, and just to add, I got a 04 plate 1.8 mondeo with about 10 months MOT and 2 months tax for £500 from ebay not too long ago.

Yeah, that's probably not going to happen :rotfl: - lucky though!

Sorry, I miss-read. But even to recoup your money, you will struggle, as people will pay a premium from a dealer, but are less inclined to do so from a private sale.

Currently looking at a couple of cars - 1999 (T) Ford Mondeo 1.8 LX Estate - 12 months MOT, tax til Aug, £795. Looks like it's in good condition but I'm not sure what the mileage is yet.
Mondy will be good for well over 150k
Thoughts? Looking at cars with as close to 12M MOT as possible to maximise chance of resale when I'm done.

MOT is worthless as an indicator of the condition of the car.

True, but something with a short MOT will be near impossible to sell on for more than scrap value.
