No slap needed for Bluenoseam. lonely and bored assessment is bang on the money.
I have been trying to carve my own path but really it all just feels like some displacement activity.
I've been struggling to cope with the empty nest bit for a few years and you'd have thought I'd have it cracked by now.
My own Mum has just made me feel like I wish I had moved far away years ago."its all your own fault"
You spoilt those children. They've had it too easy. Its because you didnt work etc etc" Grrrr!

I dont want to be "that Granny we hardly know who lives in Ireland"

Just wanted to respond to this. I'm living in the UK, having moved here from ROI. My mam is so, so, so important to my kids even though she's back home.

She comes over for Christmas with my brother and sister, who don't have children, we go back for Easter and then in the long holidays they stay with her for the full six weeks. Generally, I take two weeks holidays at the start of the summer break and stay with my mam and then go back at the end for the last week of the hols, and it works very well for us. We also try and grab the odd weekend for birthdays or bank holidays.

I ring a few times a week and the kids speak to her every time. I know it might seem like the end of the world if she doesn't come back, but it needn't be. I said when I moved over that we'd be back as soon as we could, but we've put down roots now and I can't see us moving now. Doesn't mean my family, and my mam especially, are any less important.....

I think its only natural to miss your daughter and you can acknowledge that you miss her then you have to move on and focus on the positives... Shes happy, employed, independent, keeping in touch and making her way in the world. Your job was to give her the confidence and skills to do that and you have clearly done a brilliant job.

Now is the time to focus on your other relationships and your own life.

My 19 year old daughter is now in her 2nd year away from home and I do miss her. However Skype is the best invention ever and to be honest it does her no harm when she phones occasionally and Im not there! lol (I do call right back tho lol) Visit become a fun thing and highly anticipated :) Flying south on Sunday to see mine for a few days of girly giggles - cant wait.

Your daughter will probably have an absolutely fantastic time.
Never mind the wage! You're young only once.

As other posters have said now is a good time to think about what you'd like to do/ achieve.
