Help! Car sold with wrong reg plates!

I don't think they should be sold either (without the V5), however at the same time I wouldn't of had to resort to the internet if I could of found someone locally who'd make me some plates that are legal (i.e. have the postcode on) without having some stupid branding on them (i.e. "HALFORDS").
v5c-license or utility bill thats less than 6 months old can be produced to have one printed. i dont agree with people buying "show plates" they should be on the same system as the normal plates, have to tie in with the vehicle log book and be stamped off road use only.0 -

Do you honestly think that'd change anything?
Criminals will just acquire the means to make plates - you don't need to be a registered supplier to be able to physically manufacture them!0 -
exactly, all this particular law does is make life difficult/expensive for ordinary punters while doing nothing to the people who want fake plates0

Song as the plates use the correct font and size and are just as legible as those from Halfords, meaning that they're just as likely to be read by ANPR or the old lady the driver just ran over, what difference does it make?
The requirement for name and postcode aimed to stop the supply of plates with dodgy fonts and spacing, something it has spectacularly failed to do. All it means is we now all have to drive around with a small ugly advert on the bottom of our plates, and the !!!!!! who want their plate to say D4VE J in italicised Comic bloody Sans continue to do so as they did before.
Edit: Guess I should have hit refresh before replying, as the two people above me make the exact same point only with less swearing.0 -
I've spoken to the police, and dvla and both have said it was ok for them to make up my plates!
My new plates came yesterday afternoon, hurray, but with the dealerships name, phone number and postcode on.
Again, this is legal, according to the police.
I think I'll get my own made up, rather advertise halfords than a dodgy dealership..
The reason I had to pay for second engine management light repair was because car was out of warranty. Ive checked and checked, and this is true. Absolutely nothing I could've done about it.0 -

Everybody else just stamps it as big as they possibly can to get free advertising on my car which I *hate*Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0 -

Warranty schmarranty, you have only had the car for four months. If a fault develops during the first six months, the seller has to prove that it was not there when the car was sold to you. Putting the onus on the dealer to fix the problem at their own cost. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
No certain size, just readable. Mine are readable, up close.

Yes, certain size. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
The personalisation must include the name and postcode of the supplier. This can be any size but must not exceed an area greater than 178 x 13mm and be situated centrally at the base of the plate0
