I bought some plates from ebay for about £8 for the set. You only have to get show plates if you want to space the letters etc which is illegal for normal road use. They have the manufacturer name and postcode on too.Sealed Pot Challenge #817 £50 banked0

Trading standards maybe?“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

If you are stopped by the police with incorrect number plates, you will be prosecuted.
The car will normally be impounded as subjective stolen or used in crime and subjected to a full vehicle examination, you will have to pay this cost.
The police DONT DO EXCUSES.
If you are driving on illegal plates, it is YOUR responsibility and has nothing to do with the garage, you must rectify the situation immediately before using the car on a public road or you are risking prosecution.
You may have a legal case to the seller of the car but this is separate from your responsibilities to driving with incorrect plates and will not help you in the in court,in fact coming up with such excuses will just prove your guilty as you were aware they were incorrect. my advice is park the car off road buy the correct number plates and do not use it on a public road until you have them.
You are VERY VERY lucky you have got away with it so far.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

I dont think IMO the fixed penalty will be an option if the Digits do not correspond with the registration issued by DVLA, I think it would more likely be impounded and you would have a day in court.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Vax2002, I agree. I can't believe I haven't been picked up on cameras. Car is off road and has been since I realised.
How could i have not noticed the plates were wrong?!
Well I've learned to take nothing for granted, and to check absolutely everything!0 -
A call to trading standards is a good bit of advice here, where did you see the car advertised, do you still have the advert ? Or is it in a publication you can obtain a copy of
what did it say about service history ect ?
Check the plates against the log book or keepers supliment
I would check the engine and Vin codes as well, its under a flap near the drivers seat, also on the back of plastic mouldings, ash tray etc it will have a date stamped that should be within a couple of months of the manufactured date.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I seriously doubt it.
Plenty of misrepresented registrations do not resemble the registration mark issued by the DVLA and people aren't being taken to court left right and centre.0
