If you navigate to your app drawer then look for 'File Manager' you should be able to navigate your SD card now.
If you can't see any files then firstly make sure your SD card is virtually 'mounted. Do this by going to Settings>>Storage>>Mount SD card. Then try the 'File Manager' app again.
If it still isn't working you may need to check that the SD card is properly seating in the phone. Take off the battery cover, remove the SD card, give it a quick blow of air and place is gentle back in again and repeat the above.0 -
hi t_t there is no file manager icon in my app list for some strange reason, but i download an app from market place and scan now access the sd card. as the phone has such low internal memory is there a way to auto install apps to sd card,
many thanks0 -
That depends on which version of android your are operating and/or if you have rooted your phone (which I suspect you haven't)
The vast majority of stock ROMs that are on 2.1 will not allow you to use apps like 'app2sd' which allows you to store apps and their data on your SD card. It is a common problem.
Let me know what version of android you have and which carrier you bought the phone from (orange, 02 etc) and I will see what the best way around it is.0 -
the phone was sim free , i have version 2.2
,
also when i have some application running , in the notification bar , it will have the app name and under it say "setting> preferences to to disable this" , where do i go to disable the app?, i tried the option button then pressed settings, but there is no preference option.0 -

If you mean that you want to terminate the app then you can do this via Settings// Applications// Manage Applications. Click on the app in question and tap 'force stop'. Although you should only do this if the app isn't closing itself when you exit it. Another alternative is to download an app like 'Advanced Task Killer' from the market which lets you kill all running apps with one touch. Although there is contraversy over their effectiveness... http://androinica.com/2010/05/google-and-cyanogen-comments-imply-task-killermanager-apps-are-pointless/
You say your phone is SIM free, but which company did you buy it from? That way I will know what stock 2.2 ROM is on your phone.0 -
carphonewarehouse ,
, how do i exit apps correctly , i just press back or home button , but that does not seem to fully exit them
for instance when i use press the back or home button when using "android file manager app", i see that it is still running, when i have fin with an app, how do a close it so it is not still running ? ,
if i decide to upgrade my sd card in the future would it just be a case of copying all the folder to the new sd card , or would all stuff on there have to be put back on and re installed
many thanks0 -

Android often leaves apps running in the back ground but 2.2 and above is quite good at managing memory ondemand so it won't slow you down.if i decide to upgrade my sd card in the future would it just be a case of copying all the folder to the new sd card , or would all stuff on there have to be put back on and re installed

Providing the SD card was of the same format (which it likely would be) then you could copy the entire contents of one SD onto another and the phone wouldn't know the difference.
As your phone is 2.2 you try an app called 'App2SD' for free on the market. Let me know if it works for you, if not we can try some other things.0 -
many thanks once again installed that app, it clear the catche and moved the moveable ones to the sd card, the down side appears if you downloads apps that can not be moved to the sd card , what are you meant to do with them when the phone memory is full ?0
