Not sure if you have seen the link to watchdog programme when this issue with Asda was mentioned?

It is somewhere on this thread.... Lots of people seem to have this problem, so it is definitely on Asda's and nto the bank side.

I will look into making a formal complaint, thanks.

    OK, found the link.

So it seems that the FOS is even more appropriate because it is the banks' failure to provide Asda with a method of releasing the money that is the cause of the problem.

And, of course, all the time that you can't use your money the bank can be making a profit by lending it to someone else!
There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.

Well, this is what Asda is claiming to be the reason but I doubt it as if this was the case - it would be the same with Tesco/Sainsburys etc etc online shopping. Also, this may have been the case with one bank but not all of them and only with Asda...

I had a similar issue with Asda before christmas which resulted in the co-op stopping my account due to possible fraud, Asda not delivering my shopping and I had to go to Morrisons on the 23rd December.

However this wasn't due to them taking the amount twice, it was due to the policy of taking £1.00 every time you check out, with it being a christmas delivery I had quite a few changes so each change incurred this £1.00 charge, even though it was the same day and same card, the lady I spoke to at the bank agreed it was silly that they charged the same card a £1.00 charge to check it is valid, surely once they have checked it they don't need to again and again and again and again - you get my drift?!!

Asda did not tell me the shopping was not going to be delivered, I only realised when the fraud dept of the co-op rang about the transactions, when I rang Asda to query it they told me they had not notified me as they do not have a mobile no on file, they have email and landline but their systems are set to mobile only. I can't see anything in the t&c's about that. I wrote and complained and got a crap response from someone in cust services who clearly couldn't give a stuff - but did end the letter with we hope you will continue to use Asda stores and online despite this happening.

I have not set foot in any Asda stores or done any online shopping with them since and refuse to do so, they clearly couldn't care less about their customers.

OP I have the same card as you and it works fine with Tesco's online, I got an order delivered just yesterday in fact so don't understand why you are not able to.

The only companies that it won't work online for are Debenhams and M&S, there may be others but I haven't found them yet!

So in effect you need to have double the amount required for your shopping?

That is how I am reading it too.

NOT just as a difference between order total and actual delivered total.

Basically, she is billed constantly for 2 shops until the *ordered* shop charge hold is let go by ASDA.

Here's a novel idea, make sure that you have sufficient funds so that even if some money is held, you still have money to live and pay other bills with.

Anyone living with absolutely no money buffer to allow even £50 to be held, need to take a look at their finances and sort them out.

    Flame away people.

In the current climate that we are in, maybe people don't have the luxury of having a buffer to cover such occasions!
Your comment has nothing to do with the original post made either! this is about Asda holding the OP's money. I had it happen to me a few years ago, at the time my OH was out of work so I can see where the OP is coming from.....not everyone is in the situation where they don't notice this happening.....

Looking at your signature you could take your own advice.Anyone who needs to take out a loan should maybe do the same?
Now obviously thats none of my business but its easy to make flippant comments, it still doesn't change the fact that its her money that ASDA are messing about with, which other brands manage to avoid doing so they should sort it out.

Prehaps I did take my own advice "Current goal, save £5000 by June. Final total saved £8000"

Prehaps the OP will as well.

Perhaps do some maths and deduct the "loan" from the "saved"?
    Current debt 28/05/11.

    Natwest loan £2800.

Current goal, save £5000 by June. Final total saved £8000

Thanks everyone, I will try Tesco again see if the card will work now - next shopping in 2 weeks when I get my first money from the new job, will see if it works then.

Wow, thanks for that - why I never thought of that having been on JSA for tha past 6 months? Of course, silly me - I should have had double money of the cost of whatever I needed (read: needed NOT wanted) to buy PLUS extra on the account at all times... Why didn't I think about that? Silly me..... Thanks a lot for that useful pointer.

Next time I buy anything, anything at all - I will make sure I always have double that amount (plus some) on my account.

Now imagine - going to buy a pair of jeans for a mere £19.99, make sure you have £40 on your account as other shops may follow Asda...

Now, go and get a car for some £5000 - make sure you have £10000 on yoru account...

Get it now? Or still on yoru high horse?
