Asda home shopping - holding money

Hi all,
I normally shop online at Asda and the same thing keeps on happening again.
I place an order which comes to let's say £60. In the order there are some things that come by weight or some that are unavailable at the time of delivery so when the order arrivas the amount due to pay is slightly different to the amount at the time of order (higher or lower, doe not matter - just different).
Then the correct amount is taken off from my card as payment but the other amount (from the time when order was placed) is still "pending" and I am unable to access money on my account.
It happens every single time I shop at Asda, it takes 5-10 working days for this to drop back to my acount in which time I simply can not access my money.
Normally I was calling my bank (Co-Op) and they would cancel the "pending" from Asda seeing that the money has already been taken so they would release it back to my account.
Today I was unable to do that as Co-Op said they can not do this any more and told me to call Asda. Called Asda and they said I should call my bank.
I am absolutely fuming as theoretically I have £24 on my account, but can not use it. I am behind with my TV License now because of that.
I am sure I am not the only one with this problem with Asda - apart from stopping ordering from them, what else can I do to avoid this problem in the future?
Thanks a lot...

Keep an extra amount of money in your account to cover the problem?0

I can see what you're saying and it's not good that Asda are holding onto this money. But - and apologies if I've read your post wrong - you expected to pay that £24 extra if all your goods arrived? So, had all your items been in stock you wouldn't have had the money in your account to pay your TV Licence anyway?:j Ready to take control of my life! :j

That is not the point - the point is I have no access to my own money on my own account because of Asda's weird way of charging/holding money in effect twice.0 -

In that case shopping at Asda and the system they operate clearly is unsuitable for you, so go elsewhere.0 -
I'm really not disagreeing with you on their system - it sounds cr*p and not something I remember experiencing with Tesco as a possible alternative?
I just wanted to give my viewpoint - I wouldn't be expecting to have money back for goods not available when I did my online shop, and if I did get money back and knew that Asda's system was so rubbish as to hold it for up to 2 weeks I'd be making sure I had money in my account to cover bills going out in the meantime.gettingready wrote: »That is not the point - the point is I have no access to my own money on my own account because of Asda's weird way of charging/holding money in effect twice.:j Ready to take control of my life! :j

Unfortunately I can not afford to "go elsewhere" - wish I could shop at Waitrose but pricewise Asda is the cheapest.
In any case, that was not the question "Where should I shop" - the question was what can be done about it as I know this is happening to a lot of people. So wondering if anyone has found a way to shop at Asda without having their money charged and another amount blocked on the account.0 -
If any other online shop can just simply charge for goods delivered - why Asda can not do it? Why they charge for delivered amount and still keep on hold the amount that was ordered? That is really bugging me.
I do nto have money to keep on the account and let Asda block it for up to 2 weeks.0 -

.
Tesco? Sainsbury's?0 -
Tesco does not accept my bank card for online shopping. Sainsbury is more expensive than Asda.
I have been shopping at Asda for the past 20 years.0
