It is Co Op visa that does seem to be Electron for some reason.

Lots of people have problems with this particular card at Tesco online, no problem in the shop but impossible to order online - it is the Co Op cards that start with 4508.

I placed an order with tesco online, all went through and on the day of delivery got a phone call from them that they are unable to take the payment and I needed to go to shop to collect and pay at the till.

Later on found a lot of info on the net about this tesco/Coop/Electron issue.

With Asda I have ordered about £300 worth of stuff near to Christmas and they have blocked that amount till after New year - that happened before, that was first time I have noticed what is going on with their online shopping/payments.

But as I said before, I would call my bank and they would clear the "pending" amount seeing that the proper payment was already made - but today they have told me that they can not do it any more....

Have you considered taking the problem to the ombudsman?

I've no idea but both the bank and asda seem to be operating in a very high handed and arrogant manner and depriving you of your money.

It couldn't hurt and it's not as if it costs anything or could get you into any kind of trouble.

I gave up doing online home shopping with ASDA, as not only did they keep over-charging me for items (thus NOT being cheaper!), they also have terrible customer service, and it was so much hassle getting them to refund.

I use Tesco now, and although they have messed up a couple of times (over-charging, and late delivery), their customer service is brilliant, and they were apologetic and very quick at sorting the problem!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

A great deal of negativity here for what seems like a legitimate issue.

Apologies to the OP for misunderstanding. I thought that if they shopped for £100 worth of groceries, knowing they might spend all that money, but the shop actually came to £95, Asda would take the £95 but the other £5 would have been "held". My point was that although it's obviously not ideal, that money would have been budgetted as gone anyway. Even my mistake has flaws in it, because you'd probably be wanting to spend that held money on the same items elsewhere, and if they were essential, you'd be eating into a budget for something else.

As I said, apologies for my mistake :)

They covered this in Watchdog tonight. Apparently, Asda are talking to the banks about freeing the money sooner. Funny how it's now they are talking when it's publicised, especially when I raised this with Asda over a year ago...
