    Sorry, I don't understand.

    Let me explain with figures.

You have, in your account: £200
You want to buy £80 of goods.
    You withdraw £110
You have £90 in your account
Asda 'fences' the £80 - that is successful
You have £10 available in your account
Asda picks your order and it comes to £82
Asda tries to take £82 from your account but is rebuffed because it only has £10 available.

Asda then has the option of returning your order to the shelves (or whatever they do in such circumstances) or 'unfencing' the £80 and taking the payment or taking the £80 and a further £2.

Nope, Asda will refuse and cancel the order at the time for scheduled delivery if the funds as on day of delivery (separate from the original order amount) will not be available.

...it doesn't matter what anyone suggests, OP has said nay to all.

OP knows the suggestions will not work with Asda, OP has no choice to order from Tesco, OP can not afford to shop at Sainsburys/Waitrose or wnywhere else.

    No need to be sarcastic.

...I wasn't...I was being factual. ALL options suggested have been rejected by you. Perhaps the problem is you?

Excuse me - from being sarcastic you have just gone to being simply nasty.

Options were not rejected by me - they are either unworkable/unrealistic or simple impossible as far as Asda is concerned and/or as far as my possibilities are concerned.

Can you really not open a step account with Natwest? They seem to release earmarked funds within 2-3 days. Not ideal but will allow you to continue using Asda until they get their act together.

Plus with a NatWest debit card s/he would be able to use Tesco.

However, it seems that the OP is stuck with a series of unusual restrictions that prevent him/her pursuing options that are available to others.

Yes, unfortunately I am stuck with some restrictions....

I could only open the CoOp account and they won't allow me to upgrade it to anything other than the cars I have (no cheque book, no overdraft).

And the topic really is about Asda's unusual way of charging for home delivery

    Thanks for posting.

Get a prepaid card like fair fx through moneysupermarket as it will be free ,and then go shop at Tesco ,yes it will cost you 1.5% to use but cheaper than using buses and far more convenient .Obviously it would be easier to just change accounts so that you have a bank card that Tesco accept but you may not be able to this for what ever reason .Also asda will not be any more expensive as you simple do a price check every week and they will give you the difference .

You should seriously consider complaining to the ombudsman.

This is a systemic problem that is causing people to be denied access to money that belongs to them that they have every right to be able to use. The fact that your bank will not use their influence to get Asda to correct their behaviour is disgraceful.

I see no reason why the ombudsman would not take on your case. (You may like to write a formal letter to your bank asking them to address the problem and mentioning that unless they do you will be contacting the FOS.)

Not sure if you have seen the link to watchdog programme when this issue with Asda was mentioned?

It is somewhere on this thread.... Lots of people seem to have this problem, so it is definitely on Asda's and nto the bank side.

I will look into making a formal complaint, thanks.
