Still in warranty? You'd be surprised, with some of them having 5 years warranty.

This machine is at least that old. It's still using IDE drives.
    I sometimes think it's steam-powered.
Besides, I bought it from Tiny (I know, I know) who have now gone bust.

    Is that a record?????

Nothing wrong with my machine (as far as I can see), but hers is even older.
Her machine had a single 40GB HDD to store everything and I've put in another 80GB HDD for storage.
The main HDD is that full to bursting it won't defrag properly and I've removed as much software as I can. There's about 2% free space and the Windows defragger complains it needs at least 15% to do the job properly so won't even attempt it.

I'd wipe it and start again, but there's no discs for it (Windows XP) and I can't use mine (it's OEM). They bought the machine second hand and it looks like it was badly wiped in the first place.

Is the product key definitely not OEM on hers? TBH I've never even seen a computer with XP retail. Usually the files to reinstall are just sitting in a folder on Drive C or sometimes Drive D, unless that's been wiped to save space.

Alternatively, if the 80gb drive is faster, just use Macrium Reflect and make a full 1:1 clone, and use the 80gb drive as the main one. You'll have to work out the logistics of that.

I can't find a sticker on it. I think it was bought as part of a company sell-off (getting rid of old machines to make way for new).
Never thought of cloning the drive, how long would it take to clone a 40GB drive?

Depends on the drive and the method of transfer. Takes 20 minutes for a new drive over USB, 35gb full.

Download and run RockXP to see if you can retrieve the product key.
    Move along, nothing to see.

RussJK - I can put all the drives (IDE) inside the case and use the normal cables, so that should help.
Spud17 - I only have my OEM disc and can't get hold of another so unfortunately not an option.

Same here, you need to run RockXP on her pc to retrieve the product key, it will also throw up any MS Office keys.
Then use your disk to re-install, with her key, also with the proviso re XP Home/XP pro.
OEM keys are tied to machines, ;), but the disks (OEM) are all the same, repeat, apart from Home/Pro.
    Move along, nothing to see.
