No I haven't tried as my Win 7, XP Mac OS and Linux system are all networked and working fine.

What other post 1 minute before?

Only just seen it, to be hionest.
A quick look says there's quite a bit to work through, but I'll give it a go and let you know how I get on.

    I can't tell if you're serious ;)

Debit is asking OP if he followed your advice. The OP posted a minute after you'd posted, making it a reasonable assumption that he didn't see yours.

Under 10 minutes to burn a 4+GB dvd , even quicker to copy to your usb stick, which you can re-use.
It's good that you want to learn to do it your way, but it's not a common 'job'

If you invested in a decent size flash drive (8 or 16 gb) then you could do it in about 30 mins, as long as you are transferring files not programs.

I could by another flash-drive, but why bother when I've got a perfectly good router and cross-over cable.
I know it would make the transfer easier but where's the learning experience?

If you've got a router then you don't need a crossover cable you just need normal patch cables but most modern routers can handle that cabling error so it should be OK.
