NO PLUMBER would give away his scrap, my old man saves all his over the year brings it home in the van then trades it all in to the scrappy in one go. Put it this way it gets him/her 2 weeks in Florida with their spending money every year.

Your plumber has traded it too the scrappy, a simple large copper hot water tank could get you upwards of £70 !

communication is the key, if you dont ask you wont get, tell him straight.

I know it is commOn practice but we asked him specifically before he quoted that we keep the pipes. All copper was removed and placed in bags and secured in a back room, the other pipes were in skip and taken quickly by scrap vans. He said a scrap man came and asked for old boiler (which was in skip) and he thought he'd ge rid of bags too. :-0

We have a written estimate for copper obv dependent on fluctuating price and various tradesman who saw the amount of it that was there. We also have pictures, totally by coincidence but we have them.

Still think you will struggle to prove how much it was worth.

Then you have a fair amount of evidence. I suggest you have a face to face talk and give him options of giving you the weigh in note and the cash, returning the copper or you going to the police.

I would also sack him immediately he settled the loss or if he let you go to the police. Of course, you would need to engage another plumber, but after a confrontation like that, it would be wise and justifiable to get rid.

If the police don't want to get involved and he want give you the money, it's a pretty easy job to take him to the small claims court.

Get real the small claims court will not entertain such nonsence.

If it was in the written agreement then maybe it would be a different matter.

so why don't you just high light this in writing and give it to your plumber, one of two things will happen, you come to an agreement, or they walk off the job and you have to claim through the civil court route.
